Rita, After much discussion last year, we decided that Quick Guides would not be translated in the normal Etoys way. The layout of the text on the small pages of the Guides is important, and automatic translation was not working well for that. The way to translate is to copy a guide out of the flap with the green handle, edit the text, and then save the current project using the same name as the project. I then convert these to .sexp format. Unconverted project files in the QuickGuides folder also work. You can try out your new guides that way. To use the guides in German, replace the QuickGuides folder with a new one that has German guide projects in it.
How about having language specific folder like QuickGuides/ja for translated guide files? then we could install/replace/customize localized guide in clean way.

Bert, Yes, I am the person who knows how to prepare guides for the release. I make them in to .sexp files and put them in a folder. You then commit the folder to SVN, and do the normal build process. (I'll need to look at my notes and remember all of this.)

Korakurider, Yes, we thought about this. We could include a Quickguides folder for each language. It is about 4.5 megabytes per language. Maybe we should not include all of these folders in the release. A user could download each language as he needed it. What do you think, Bert?

If that is the only way then yes, we will have to do that. If we need to save space, the guides could be packaged and installed separately.
I am more concerned about giving others the chance to experiment with this.
It's a very generous offer that you personally want to convert each and every guide someone might make. But I am sure others could learn how to do that, too. We should enable others to first replicate the work we do, and then build on top of it. That's the very idea of a community project. So please, let us make the guide projects available, and I think you already had written up an outline of how you convert them to guides.
