Tim,
We need your help. Can you pull another rabbit out of your hat?
Squeakfest is next week, and I would love to be able to tell folks they can post their projects on the Squeakland website and that we will post projects shown at Squeakfest on Squeakland, but there are a number of issues that need to be addresses for me to feel comfortable saying that:
1. I still get failures logging in from within Etoys (current account MrSteve and new test accounts created) 2. I have uploaded through the Website, and made projects public but they do not show up 3. I know a number of folks have had problems posting as well
Squeakland is a great site, with really good potential, but unless these issues are resolved the only places I can think to post are the SuperSwiki sites in France and Japan.
I am willing to help test, if you have any further questions I will send you my cell phone in a separate email.
Thanks, Stephen
Steve,
I'll try to get to this this afternoon.
Tim

Looks like a case-sensitivity problem. Usernames are all converted to lowercase. The website allows you to use upper/lowercase when you log in (teefal, Teefal, TEEFAL).
With my own account, I can also use upper/lowercase when logging in from Etoys. When I login as "MrSteve" in Etoys, it gives me a never-ending 500 Servlet Exception box, requiring a force quit.
I can log in with "mrsteve" fine from Etoys. I'm perplexed by this. Perhaps Etoys is doing something with the text field, expanding it somehow . . . "MrSteve" -> "Mr Steve"
Either way, we need to figure this out. (logged as http://tracker.squeakland.org/browse/SQ-735)
(I did confirm that this also happens with a new account "MrCrab" won't login from Etoys, but will login as "MrCrab" from website.

As far as I know, Etoys does not do such conversion.
It sounds that server decided to do the lowercase normalization. Such network programs should be strict about their output but forgiving for input. So, the server should just do the conversion for any incoming requests. The client (Etoys in this case) should just send the string as the user typed in.

Yes, I'm pretty sure Etoys does not alter the typed-in username in any way. Maybe the server is not case-insensitive everywhere? Like in the DAV module? Etoys constructs the pathname using the typed-in username, maybe that's where the server fails?

Agreed. Here's the strange thing ... I just logged in directly using the Mac Finder (webdav) and Cyberduck, and it works without regard to case.
Both the website (login) and non-Etoys WebDAV appear to be working. Can someone confirm this:

I believe this one is now fixed as well. There was a bug, which affected about 15 projects in the database, all now fixed.
Another bigger bug is looming though ... http://tracker.squeakland.org/browse/SQ-734
Hoping to fix this one ASAP.

Yeah Tim!!!!
I can now post projects, (as long as I log in with all lower case).
I just made a project public, not sure if you have "flipped the switch" yet, but please do when you have a chance, it will allow us to post projects immediately for teachers. We are hoping to get some ideas from teachers on projects and create them during Squeakfest (at least a start) to help encourage and support them.
Again many thanks, glad your back.

Steve,
I need to hear this from Rita, regarding flipping the switch. It's an education team policy choice.

Hi Tim,
didn't you get my email from yesterday? Maybe it was my fault to reply to a jira message instead of sending the message to you directly. Here it is:
"I also vote yes to immediate publishing of projects. You are right, we didn't had inappropriate projects, and I would give it a try. Especially for Squeakfest it would be convenient. "
Thank you, Rita
