I discussed it in the past with Bert and Yoshiki. I think it makes sense but what do you think about it?

I think it makes sense, too.
I'm cool with it too . . . but let's talk to the software & education teams before deciding.
Rita, can you send an email to the education team, asking them to have a look at Dr Geo if they haven't already?
Anyone on the etoys-dev list have a problem or concern with doing this?

I was opposed to putting it into the image before, preferring to have it as loadable package. But no progress has been made in at least a year on better package support, and DrGeo is just too nice to omit. So I'd support including it now.

Yes, we understand that your opposition wasn't against DrGeo II but trying to use it as a forcing function for inventing a mechanism.
Timing wise, I think that the inclusion should happen right after the "September release". What do others think?

The education team has just given their okay to include it:
http://wiki.squeakland.org/display/sq/2009/09/03/education+team+meeting+Sept...
What I remember of the DrGeo code is that it is a clear add-on and should not interfere with the rest. So it should be fairly safe to include even at this point, provided it happens really soon and gets at least some testing.
Hilaire, you would have to prepare a change set we can push to the update stream, very soon. Please attach it to the ticket I created (couldn't find a previous one):
http://tracker.squeakland.org/browse/SQ-324

One question that wasn't resolved during the ed meeting was, where should we put it?
The general consensus was to put it in "Basic" in the object catalogue, since "Particles" was there.
Some disagreement about what the word basic meant:
basic = general ?
basic = easy ?
basic = fundamental ?
basic = I can't figure where else to put it ?
We might think of another category for both Kedama & Dr Geo and future "deep stuff".
Serious Play ?
Components
... apps unto themselves ... don't know :)

Not a good idea.

Simple and fundamental, that's what I'd put in Basic, yes.
basic = I can't figure where else to put it ?
I guess that might have been the case with Kedama.
We might think of another category for both Kedama & Dr Geo and future "deep stuff".
Agreed. I'd propose "Advanced" but I think categories are sorted alphabetically ...

While we're on the subject, I've always had a problem with "Just For Fun". Could we change that to Games?
The word "Just" next to "Fun" seems against the spirit of Etoys.

Open a ticket.

Why not simply "Fun"? These are not really games. Not pure fun either of course. It's hard to label stuff accurately.
