Squeak, un logiciel dont on peut abuser

Bonjour, Un petit bijoux que ce Squeak. C'est un logiciel libre qui au départ surprend beaucoup mais ses possibilités sont assez vastes. En fait au départ Squeak c'est en environnement multimédia de développement en Smalltalk. Ce langage - Smalltalk - fut inventé dans les années 70 par les pères du système de fenêtrage et souris (vous savez ceux dont Apple a repris plusieurs idées). Squeak est en fait un projet de ses mêmes personnes, demarré dans les années 90 alors qu'ils étaient chez Apple, puis continué chez Disney et maintanent dans une fondation (Viewpoints Research Institute Inc). Les pères de Squeak ont toujours eut pour idée de faire un environnement qui soit accessible aux enfants, leur objectif est de faire un outil informatique qui puisse aider à une bonne appropriation des sciences et des mathématiques de façon constructiviste. Donc au départ Squeak était un environnement de développement en Smalltalk avec des outils très inovants pour la programmation Objets. Mais d'autres outils ont été développés dont en particulier les E-Toys. Les E-Toys c'est de la programmation graphiques et interactive. Une sorte d'application du constructivisme dans l'univers informatique. Les jeunes adorent et les applications pédagogiques sont vastes en matière de modélisation par les élèves. En plus des E-Toys, il existe des outils pour faire des présentations interactives avec du son, de la vidéo et pleins d'autres choses. Comme dans Squeak tous les objets peuvent être utilisés de façon croisée, il est par exemple possible d'utiliser des E-toys dans une présentation interactive, ou bien de faire l'inverse. Ou bien ou bien... Bref il faut le voir pour le croire. Et le mieux sous la forme d'une démonstration. Si cela vous interesse vous pouvez télécharger depuis http://crdp.ac-bordeaux.fr/squeak. C'est la page d'un concours mais il y a un fichier .exe à télécharger et des documents PDF à imprimer. Le .exe (désolé qu'une archive windows pour le moment) contient l'installateur du programme Squeak (une machine virtuelle) plus l'image +ou- francisée avec des tutoriels intégrées. Re: French translation based on Language Editor

Hello Diego, We (squeak-fr@) have an updated French.po at http://www.ofset.org/~hilaire/French.po I know some of the msgid are wrong. These msgid were extracted by a third party and my knowledge of Squeak does not allow me to figure out yet what's wong in the extraction process. However, I try to import this French.po in the Squeak 3.7. However the gettext import does not work with my 3.7 image. Is it a known problem or only a problem of myself. In the meantime, I found that importing the French.po in Small-land 3.5, then exporting as a French.translation was working. Indeed, the import of French.translation is working with Squeak image 3.7, ouf! However I noted that the original French.po and French.translation do have different weigth. The first one weigth 790kB and the second 230kB. Oops, quite different, not sure what is lost in the meantime. Squeak, Croquet et application commerciale

Bonjour à tous, En mars/avril de cette année j'avais évoqué la capacité de Squeak de faire partie de développements commerciaux. Depuis septembre ,j'ai fondé la marque Bird Technology dont l'objectif est de fournir des technologies innovantes notamment dans le domaine des Rich Internet Application. Un des principaux vecteurs de l'innovation logiciel a été et est toujours Smalltalk (CF Croquet), Squeak à ce titre représente un creuset inestimable. Bird Technology a présenté en septembre Bird of Java un middleware de nouvelle génération orienté Rich Internet Application et support technique de technologies telleq que synthèse vocale, . Parallèlement à Bird of Java, Bird Technology a créer à destination principalement de Squeak (un choix de prime abord ''exotique'') un framework : Bird View . Ce framework léger mais à disposition de Squeak l'ensemble des fonctionnalités de Bird of Java, principalement accès aux données et Remote Procedure Call. Ce framework est facilement adaptable à VisualWorks et Smalltalk/X. L'objectif est de permettre à Squeak d'accéder naturellement à Java et à toutes les bases supportant JDBC. Il parfaitement envisageable de concevoir une approche hybride où la partie IHM d'une application serait sous Squeak (ou son plugin dans le cas d'une application internet) et la couche métier serait sous Java-J2EE par exemple. Ainsi, il possible de profiter des capacités graphiques inégalées de Squeak (et de Croquet) tout en profitant des capacités de J2EE dans le domaine de la gestion métier. Si Bird of Java est naturellement payant, Bird View est gratuit afin de favoriser le développement de Squeak dans le domaine des applications commerciales. Une solution comme le couple Flash/Flex peut être surpassée tant en qualité qu'en retour sur investissement par une solution associant Squeak et Bird of Java. On peut aussi imaginer des applications 3D sous Croquet de représentation de processus de fabrication accédant aux services Java (ou autre) déjà en place. Le manque de performance de Squeak dans certains traitements peut être compensé par cette approche hybride, Java offrant désormais des performances vraiment intéressantes. Tout espoir n'est pas perdu, en consolatio, j'ai trouvé comment traduire les E-toy :-) Au sujet des E-toy non traduits dans la version 3.7 ce qui est le cas, je le constate aussi. En fait les E-toys se traduisent encore avec le vieux système qui utilise la méthode addFrenchVocabulary. REBonjour, En fait j'utilise un clavier suisseRomand et non un AZERTY Pour moi les chiffres sont en bas donc sans shift. et alt- chiffre ne pose pas de problème. (ce qui n'excuse pas les fautes de frappe du message précédent :-) Rappelons aussi shift -alt clic qui donne les halos du plus en avant vers l'arrière. Utile pour attraper certains objet collés sur un autre mais placé dans le bord, ces objets sont souvent innaccessibles par une suite de alt/clic. shift clic sur la molette a le même effet. Et à ce propos de shift-alt , ATTENTION il a la particularité de changer de clavier, vous passez ainsi de l'AZERTY à un autre clavier. Il y en a plusieurs, répétez shift -alt jusqu'à retrouver le clavier voulu. This talk will describe the recent efforts to close that gap, in the form of several packages for Squeak Smalltalk that are geared towards business and team development: Seaside, a web application framework; Monticello, a source code versioning tool; ROE, a framework for relational data; and GOODS, a client library for a free object oriented database. These packages are an interesting hybrid: their requirements come out of the business world, but their designs are informed by the innovative and pure-object culture of Squeak. The end result is a complete platform that allows business applications to be built quickly and reliably, on a free and open source core, without losing sight of the fun that is intrinsic to working in Squeak. Bio: Avi Bryant is an independent consultant currently residing in the Netherlands. He has been a driving force behind the use of Squeak Smalltalk as a platform for commercial software development, and maintains many of its most widely used packages. As a consultant, he has helped companies develop Squeak-based products for the travel and theatre industries, higher education, and mobile devices. Avi previously worked as a developer and research assistant for the University of British Columbia.
