[Etoys] Nepalese support: making progress

Hello, We are making another progress on the text rendering support with Pango. This time, I'm even comfortable to mention it publicly! As a test, I put a little bit of (incomplete) Nepalese support. For those who would like to try right now, do it a bit hard way on Linux: - Get the latest VMMaker image, update RomePlugin to the latest version with the Monticello browser. Generate source code to compile the VM. - Update the etoys-3.0 image to the latest. - Switch the language to Nepali from the flag in the menu bar. - Change the keyboard layout to devanagaari by something like: setxkbmap -layout in -variant deva and type Devanagaari into Etoys. Clipboard isn't quite right (even though it may seem to be working), but let me know if the keyboard works as expected. Sometime this week, we'll release the VM so that you don't have to build the VM by yourself. Thank you! -- Yoshiki

[Etoys] etoys on xo in browse(r)

Hey, I noticed some things about running etoys in the browser on the XO. The overriding theme here is that you can't. That is to say, not from a default install. First of all npsqueak.so isn't linked to the mozilla plugin directory. Is this intentional? Seems to be a waste of opportunity, since all the infrastructure is already there. Then npsqueakrun (which is called by the plugin), doesn't work in the new olpc security model and doesn't work well WITH it either. The way it works now, the SqueakPlugin.image is copied to {userdir}/.npsqueakplugin, which is of course a waste of space and effort with processes running as different on the fly created users. My hackish solution is to just load the plugin in /usr/lib/squeak. See the attached npsqueakrun, which is equally hackish. /Ties

Hi all, i would like to complete some french translations of EToys. Could you add me as a translator in order to have access to the submit button ? Hello, For those who are fetching updates regularly: If you are: - On a Unix-variant system with the Pango library installed, - Using a relatively new VM but not very new, - and trying to update your image through 2046, the system will fail. To avoid the problem, update the VM first to: http://etoys.laptop.org/rpms/squeak-vm-3.10-3olpc5.i386.rpm or recompile it by yourself with the latest source and then try to update.
