Hi Tim, can you please replace the unused "Class Map" link on http://wiki.squeakland.org/display/sq/Home with "Translations"? I see no way to edit this myself. Thanks. Testing needed keyboard events

Hi I made it possible for scripts to trigger on keyStroke, keyDown and keyUp events. It works on windows but I think some testing on other platforms are needed. Go to http://tracker.squeakland.org/browse/SQ-331 and download KeystrokeScriptInstatiation.4.cs Feedback would be great :-) Karl

URL links within Etoys

I discovered yet another fun new feature in Etoys: When inside a "Text" object if you type <cmd>-6 (or for you windows folks <ctrl>-6) you get some color options, plus: *be a web URL link* * * Yet when I tried this, and clicked on the link, I two prompts: 1. Prompt: Open a browser to view this URL? (then clicked on Yes, with great hope and anticipation) 2. Prompt: There are no WebBrowser applications registered (Darn, yet another potentially cool feature, that doesn't work and disappoints me, IMO we really should clean these things up, so kids have a better experience and don't get frustrated) 3. Prompt: View Web Page as source (this worked, but of limited utility, well my mind is not yet capable of figuring out a utility yet). Thanks, Stephen

1. What is the difference between "Script Status Control" values: normal and paused? 2. I was able to get "Script Status Control" value "mouseLeaveDragging" to work, but could not figure out how to trigger "mouseEnterDragging" 3. For the "Script Status Control" values of: opening and closing 1. Do these only apply to page (ie: page in a book) and world scripts, or are there other objects these apply to? 4. There are two "Script Status Control" values I do not understand (see below): 1. scrolledIntoView -- (Morph) when I am scrolled into view in a GeeMailMorph 2. scrolledOutOfView -- (Morph) when I am scrolled out of view in a GeeMailMorph Thanks, Stephen

Quick Guide Revisions

Hi, I revised the Quick Guides to realign text, illustrations, and Scriptors on the book's pages. Is it possible to replace the guides with the revisions. Let me know who to send them to to get into the update stream. They will look much better and the mistake will not keep going out to more new people. The error is in: Script Tile: X and Y Tiles Mark Places on a Grid page 2 top line should have been "Click and hold down on the Y in the tile below." The Quick Guide as it is right now in Etoys refers to X. The Scriptor on that page is about Y so the text in the top line should be Y too. I would have added this to the tracker info but I see a message: Bad Gateway The proxy server received an invalid response from the upstream server. Apache/2.0.63 (Unix) DAV/2 PHP/5.2.1 Resin/3.0.8 Server at tracker.squeakland.org Port 80 Regards, Kathleen

Thanks, Korakurider, Karl and Yoshiki for the answers to my previous questions. Here is the next set: 1. What is the purpose of the variable Type: ButtonPhase (ie: how and where can I use it)? A Type with the following possible values: button down, while pressed, button up 2. In the documentation I wrote: " In Etoys the terms Player and Object basically mean the same thing." Is this accurate or does Player have a special meaning? 3. For Type "Point" you can enter a single number (ex: 100) which if you try and use it to set an object's location will throw an exception: > An error has occurred in script5 of Rectangle. Fix your script(s), hit 'Abandon' and try again. If you enter an "incomplete point" ex: @100 or 100@ you get a "Syntax Error" "Nothing more expected ->@00" Thanks, Stephen

Folks couple of questions: 1. For Variable type "ImageResolution" how can I use this? I could not find a matching attribute to set. FYI, valid values from pull down are - original (can use a lot of disk space) - 256 colors - 256 grays - 4 grays - black and white 2. For imported images, how can I change the resolution? 3. When I try to change a variable type to "Patch" I get a "Message Not Understood" message 4. What is a Patch and how would I use it in Etoys? 5. If you import an image; from menu choose "set as background"; 1. THEN... How do you clear the background image? Note this is a better way to set the background than painting a background (with one BIG exception, it seems to use the image and repeat it to fill the background, so there is no "single smaller than world" image that you can easily use (yes, you could embed in a transparent sketch the size and background color of the world) 2. When you set the background, the World's color attribute seems to be set to the image. To test this: 1. drag an image into Etoys 2. click on the images menu and then "set as backgroung" 3. From the world's viewer, go to category color (or "fill and border") then drag out the assignment operator to make a script to set the color 4. import another picture and set it as background 5. the background to the previous image... So is color simply a graphic used for fill? Stephen
