Etoys 4.1 alpha 1

Here is the first alpha version of the upcoming Etoys 4.1 release: http://etoys.squeak.org/download/Etoys-4.1-alpha1.zip Please test and report problems. If this basically works (I did not try on Windows and Linux), we can announce it on Squeakland for wider testing. This is only the Etoys-To-Go version. Installers for Mac and Windows won't come before beta (unless someone volunteers to start working on them now). The biggest changes since Etoys 4 are * added DrGeo for exploring geometry * Sketches support flipping * geometry tiles for the world * timer tile (world and other playfields) * can store preferences * QuickGuides translated to Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, and (some) French * translations broken up in smaller files * system organized in packages, developed using Monticello * whatever I forgot (need to start working on release notes, which should also have proper attributions) We have a few weeks now to the final release. There are still a few additions in the pipeline (Richo's bubbles, Jerome's smooth curves, my Sugar stuff) which can still make the cut if we think the risk is low. But mainly we need to iron out bugs. Thanks to everyone who helped making this! You guys rock :) - Bert -

Hi, Has anyone got -compositioninput to work correctly in Etoys RC3 X11 driver? When I try to use kn-itrans method, the text is rendered as unicode boxes rather than shaped by Pango engine. But cut-n-paste from another application window works fine. I am using UIM input method engine on my Linux box. I added -compositioninput just after -xshm in etoys.sh launch script. Are there any other magic incantations to be set in the code? Thanks .. Subbu

Hi, I tried to log in to Confluence to add these names directly but it does not recognize my name, password, and email. Sorry to add one more thing to your to-do list. You have already done so much. Please add the following translator names: Stephen Trofinoff Martin Bettge Franz Maritsch Luis Valente Carlos Rabassa Has Sdenka changed her name? I have her as Sdenka Salas Pilco. The release looks very good. I tried some projects, demos, and guides. Are the release notes an appropriate time/place to announce the Floss manual and a link to it? Regards, Kathleen

What you saw in the last month were "only" pre-releases (alpha, beta, and candidates). The final release will happen this week. We are not using Scrum. We are only a group of volunteers with unpredictable time available. When we find time to fix bugs or work on a feature we do. We coordinate on the etoys-dev mailing list, our bug tracker, and sometimes on IRC. Spanish translation error in Etoys RC2

Hi guys, I just noticed a very important bug using Etoys RC2. If you use the spanish translation and you open the viewer of an object, the viewer appears empty with two "Basic" categories. IIRC something similar happened early with the Portuguese translations. I couldn't investigate further and I'll try to look at it later, but I wanted to tell you at least (maybe you know what to do).
