I just need to know how to access a database and make minor changes. If someone could point me to a tutorial or really good site that covers this aspect, it would be very helpful. Thanks.
Depends on the database.
squeak has a PostgreSql's client, or you can use ODBC to access an other databases. In addition, you can use Glorp to mapping your's objects to database rows..
here you are a tutorial to use seaside (a web framework), in persistence section, you can find a step by step example, to use Glorp and PostgreSQL.

In addition to the solutions Diego pointed out, there's also a simple interface to SQLite on SqueakMap - there's a slight typo in the example query given, but apart from that it's fine.

there's also a Mysql driver which I'm using in production work. It has some very short examples on the swiki but those actually cover everything there is to know.
Only thing to remember, is you need a new connection for every query.
