Is there a tandard way to attach context menus

Hello all, is there a standard way to attach a context menu to a morph? It's fairly easy to do by checking for yellowButtonPressed and manually firing up a MenuMorph. But it is sufficient to implement #addCustomMenuItems:hand: to get an enhanced Halo menu while #addYellowButtonMenuItemsTo:event: and #hasYellowButtonMenu don't help. One click setup for 3.9 [win]

Hi people, I create a one click setup for newbies. It will do the following things after run: 1. download SqueakVM from ftp.squeak.org 2. download 3.9 images, soruces ftp.squeak.org 3. extract all things 4. create shortcut in desktop and program menu. I found the download process may cost some time, because there is only one download session. The installer can work only in Windows. It can be get from: http://liuxinyu95.googlepages.com/squeak3.9_win_installer.exe I created it with NullSoft installation system scripts. Is there a way to watch all the messages flowing in Squeak?

Although everything in Squeak is open, I find it quite hard sometimes to track down what is calling what. It would be great if I could open up a window to see which object is being called when I e.g. right click on the surface and bring up the World menu etc. Is there some way to turn on the debugger and just let it run, or something like that? thanks Andy B

squeak on the ps3

Howdy I am interested in squeak on the sony ps3. I think it would be a great platform for education. The ps3 comes with Linux and is reported to support other operating systems (SQUEAK OS?). It has state of the art multimedia hardware. Yellow Dog Linux has already announced their Linux will be available on the ps3. The various coprocessors and other hardware would be a lot of fun with plugins. Squeak on a HD 1080p display!!! I think the ps3 could attract lots of kids that want to build media. We plan to play with a squeak wiki and croquette on the assumption that they would be great collaboration tools for working with kids and education. Etc etc enthuse enthuse ;-) If they sell the million consoles the first year... hmmm Is anyone else interested in a ps3 squeak? Gary

Stop a script for a second

Hi together, I am new to this list. So perhaps I should introduce myself. I am 25 year old german student studying congitive neuroscience in Utrecht/Netherlands. I want to use squeak /etoys mainly for exploring and visualizing some ideas in a quick way. Right now I want to build a prototype for an experiment and think that this is a good project to learn a bit more about squeak. I want to program a sequence of objects appearing on different positions on the screen one after the other and later in a random order. A very dirty way to do so is just script doing something like. object1 show. script wait for 1000ms. object1 hide object2 show script wait for 1000ms. I know that this is a very basic question but couldn't find the answer, as I don't know what it is I am looking for. thanks a lot martin

I'm having trouble understanding the '>>' in some Smalltalk programs, Such as this, from Smalltalk By Example: MyClass>>doThis array := Array new: 3. array at: 1 put: 2. I can understand that we are creating a new 3-place instance of Array, named array, and putting 2 in the first slot. Growing image

Hi, at the moment I'm developing an application with seaside, magritte and magma. If I start with a fresh image I only need a few days for the image to exceed 100MB in total size. Is there a way do display the total amount of objects being in the image? I think only a vast amount of objects could make the image grow that much. A list of object grouped by class and sorted by amount would be very helpful. Is there any such tool? regards, Norbert

squeak ldap attribute modification

Hi, I was playing with ldap litlle bit and I found some strange behavior. When I am trying to do some attribute modification I got error "Improper store into indexable object". example: (I uesed syntax from ldap test class) ld modify:(ldr dn) with: {LDAPAttrModifier addTo: 'employeeNumber2' values: {'123' }}. (where ld is ldap connection, ldr is first resultentry) I debuged it and found that I should use: ld modify:(ldr dn asString) with: {LDAPAttrModifier addTo: 'employeeNumber2' values: {'123' }}. ldr dn is instance of ByteArray class, but ld modify: with: expect it as string. Am I doing anything wrong? or it is correct to use it that way. vlado plsek

suggested server (headless) swiki package for mac os x?

I'd like to setup a server (headless) wiki running on a mac os x machine to allow some students to post their e-toys and so forth. I haven't had good luck trying comswiki (http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/ swiki/16) as a headless option for the mac squeak VM. The VM maintainer suggests I ask the lists what other swiki options. Very Basic Squeak information

Hi, I am looking for some very (super newb) basic information about squeak. Here are my questions: - Where does the source code go? I used the workspace window to test the objects I created (and others), but where do I put the main program logic so that I can execute the program at will? Just use workspace window like I was doing? Are there other methods? - Is there such a thing as command line squeak? Such that I can create my objects, then put the basic program logic in a file and fire it off from the command line? I feel as though I am missing something essential that was not made obvious from the documentation (or I just plain missed it). How do you distribute a squeak program? Do you always have to use the IDE environment to run the programs you create? What is the difference between the VM and the main GUI environment download? I understand the concept of creating objects and passing messages to the objects, I am just fumbling for the thing that glues this all together....like a main class in Java, for example. If someone could point me in the direction of those answers, I'd greatly appreciate it.
