Bugging out of Squeak

Let's say you're totally lost, and want to exit Squeak without saving anything from the mess you've just made. Wouldn't you click World > quit, then answer 'No' to 'Save changes before quitting'? Make 3.9 final "window" smaller

Hi, This seems like the stupidst question ever, but... I downloaded the Squeak 3.9 final image. But when I open in on my 12" powerbook, the Squeak window is larger than my 1024x768 screen. So the bottom and right go off my screen. How can I make the window smaller? As far as I know on my mac there isn't a window resize apart from dragging the bottom right corner, which I can't get to.... Thanks, Steve

Hi lanas, You have a found a good issue worthy of being fixed. The best place for this info would be to start a Mantis report. (You can get a mantis acct freely and easily). A good place to start is: http://bugs.impara.de/my_view_page.php Mantis provides a patient persistent way to focus on an issue. I use it to accumulate data on a problem until a solution can be found. It provides a place to alert the community to a problem; -accumulate facts and clues from the analysis; -publish preposed solutions and get feedback; -get solutions harvested and included into the main stream. How to squeeze Multiple Inheritance into Squeak ?

Squeak does not support multiple inheritance. Sadly enough the possibility of Multiple Inheritance in Squeak would greatly benefit me in my current Squeak project ? What would you suggest to squeeze some sort of Multiple Inheritance into Squeak ? - C-like Macros / or some kind of automation - Traits - some other possibilities What is your experience ? The idea to design my system better and introduce more abstraction is valid, but I still would like to stick Multiple Inheritance. --------------------------------- Want to start your own business? Question on where the new method is define

I'm very new to smalltalk and squeak. I'm having trouble understanding where/how is the "new" method is defined. I was messing around with morphs; I tried CurveMorph new. Nothing happened so I started walking back through the parents of CurveMorph looking for the method "new". I got all the way to the top (ProtoObject) and to my bewilderment... no "new". I used the method finder and found the "new" method in the Behavoir class. How are these related? It seems like something with a class being a real object and descending from behavior, but I can't seem to wrap my mind around that. Any help and insights would be appreciated. Thanks.

E-Toys and Morphic for simple point plotting exercise?

I'd like to challenge some students (9 years old to 14 years old) to use Squeak to draw a Sierpenski Gasket (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Serpinski_gasket) as an experiment with random numbers. To draw something like you see at (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/ Sierpinski_triangle), one method is to pick a starting point, randomly select one of the three fixed corners, plot a line half way there and repeat from each new position. I can seem to accomplish this awkwardly using E-Toys as follows: - draw a sketch morph using paint tool or however you wish to obtain something that is visibly positioned at different points below - add 2 number variables for each point to be used, i.e, point1X, point1Y, Point2X, Point2Y, Point3X, Point3Y - add a script with random number tile generating 1, 2 or 3 that loops: - determine which of 3 fixed points is to be used this time - turn pen off - move half way to new fixed plot point - turn pen on - move one pixel to draw dot - turn pen off - move back one pixel and repeat above from current point This works but it feels very clunky using E-Toys. I did lesson 2 of the tutorial the other day and didn't have any problems. Iam using the OLPC Squeak image. I put the project on my Squeak website: http://squeak.pbwiki.com/My%20Squeak%20projects What I did was to create 2 text with border objects by dragging them out of the Object catalog. Rename to In1 and Out1. Open viewers on each. Drag a scripting tile out of Out1. Drag a "Out1 characters <--abc" tile out of the viewer and put in the script. From the In1 viewer, drag the tile "In1's characters" and drop it on top of the abc tile in the script. If you fire the script now, it will copy the text from In1 to Out1. The rest of the tutorial just adds functionality. Click in scripts menu icon and select view as text. Now you can type Smalltalk code into the script. Once you accept your change, you cannot go back to viewing your script as tiles. This menu also lets you create a button to fire the script. Being a newbie myself, I have been putting Squeak info and tutorials that I find on my Squeak wiki. Take a look around and feel free to contribute.
