SMMaintainableObject?

Hi all, I am new to the list and to SmallTalk. I just installed squeak on a Debian Sarge box yesterday and all went well. I had intalled Seaside and the required packages such as KomServices etc. It was all working great and I was having a great time with Seaside's intro tutorials. Then, in my ignorance when I quit I didn't save the image. Today when I start squeak I get... a progress bar -> Reading a stream and then.. 'Reading an instance of SMMaintainableObject, which modern class should I translate to?' popup dialog when I try to open the Package Loader. In the debugger it says... UndefinedObject(object)>>doesNotUnderstand: #classVersion When I first installed squeak I seem to remember at this point I got a msg which said something like you are using an older verison (of something) would you like to update? to which I said yes and it then displayed the package loader. I thought it would be simpler to reinstall so I deleted my image file in my home dir and reinstalled squeak from the tar.gz file and ran INSTALL again as root. Still the same problem. Can some one please shed some light on what's going on and how to fix this? TIA, bakki

Changing error message

Hi, Is it possible to change some error messages ? For example, if i get "Error: At least one digit expected here" error, i want to show my own error message. Is that possible ? Thanks,

UndefindObject '#findlast:'

Hi whilst doing an update of installed packages if got an UndefindObject error regarding method '#findlast'. opened the debugger and traced this method to 'Collections>Abstract>SequenceableCollection'. YAXO is that package that update is trying install. I started a fresh 3.8 image yesterday installed some packages. how do I resolve this error condition? regards John

How to customize an object's printed appearance in Squeak

In all of Squeaks inspectors, workspaces, etc. I want objects of class-A to display their name, and objects of class-B to display their number. What do I override to do this? Thanks.

How to switch default browser

How would one go about switching the default browser? I remember at one point switching from the standard Squeak browser to the Refactoring Browser, but since found out that OmniBrowser is the Squeak browser of choice (if I'm wrong about this please let me know) but can't figure out how to switch the default to OmniBrowser. I know I have it installed and can open it manually from the workspace, but it would be nice if I could switch the default. Thanks everybody. -Rich

Hi Damien and David I followed Damien's suggestion but made no headway. Had a think, found the package cache and the 'sar' file for the package of interest. Them remembered the 'file list' tool and did as David has outlined. I guess I also learnt something about the package install process. Thanks for your responses. John

Morphic help needed

I am trying to create a simple toggle button in morphic which toggles between two graphics. Could anyone give me a tutorial. I am trying to assemble such a device using the tiling scripting interface and pre-existent morphs. (i.e. not coding in smalltalk) I cant seem to find the hook for responding to a ButtonMorph or SimpleSwitchButton being clicked After about 7 hours fighting the tiling scripting environment I am beginning to miss hypercard a lot. many thanks in advance Keith ___________________________________________________________ The all-new Yahoo! finding messages after package install

Hi, some packages open a workspace showing the contents of a 'readme' file during or the end of an package install to explain the package operations/use. how does one find/access these files at a latter time. regards john
