squeak 'wysiwyg' application?

Hi, I'm working through a beginner tutorial, and like what I see so far, but I have a side question... Is there a wysiwyg editor for squeak? I guess I can live without (and use LaTEX outside of Squeak) but it would be nice to have. I don't need "Word" or "OpenOffice" but I'd like something more like "Wordpad." Is SqueakMap the place to look for something like that, or is there someplace else? Are there enough tools to really 'live' in a squeak environment? Stable 3.10 Universe

Might I suggest a that a link to the Stable 3.10 Universe image ( http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/5918) be set up on the squeak.org site along with the other "Pre-configured Images?" So far it has given me the most stable, error free installations of all the images out there, and it didn't take much to get all the standard development tools loaded into it. Rob

Squeak networking

Hello, can anybody give me a pointer on how to start networking in Squeak? Task is: On localhost a server is sending 1K sized UDP packets on port 0? (is port 0 possible?) and listening on 1979 for packets. Thanks, Herbert

Is it considered bad practice to use #respondsTo:? If so, why? Lint flags it as a "questionable" message. Thanks - Sophie

Let me clarify my last post. I used Homebase to start out and was able to load Tweak successfully. I tried to load Magma and got the error above in the Homebase image. I am thinking about just using Morphic for now since it appears it works with Magma pretty well and for my purpose will do the job. I hope that Tweak will be updated since I noticed that the maintainers are not maintaining it anymore. Thanks, Keith

Thanks for your response. I had to update SqueakMap to get the latest release. I get a syntax eror on Behavior *ma base additions maFirstCommentOrNilAt: Does the latest release only support 3.9? Thanks, Keith

Magma and Tweak

I am writing simple educational applications for a customer that requires a good user interface with a database. So, I did some initial research and said, wow, Magma looks like a good choice and Tweak also looked like a good choice (I was also thinking about just using Morphic). I have been playing around with Croquet and Cobalt a bit also. I am on a Mac so I loaded the current Squeak image and installed Magma. Now, when I try to use Monticello to install tweak from http://hedgehog.software.umn.edu:8888/Tweak. I get an error that I attached. I am trying to use the install.mcm file. I did go back to use an older version of Monticello and got it to load to a certain point before it started syntax erroring on CObject and other classes. I did update the package to the most current and still gives me this error. I hope this helps. I am brand new to Squeak and trying to learn the insides and out, Thanks for any advice! Reading file into Shout Workspace

Just in case this might be helpful to someone, here's an example of how to read text from a file into an appropriately named Workspace so you can use the Workspace windowbar menu to save the contents of the Workspace back into the same file easily. (SHWorkspace new openLabel: 'myWorkspace') contents: ((FileStream fileNamed: 'myWorkspace.text') contentsOfEntireFile); changed: #contents. -- Ken G. Magma and Tweak

Hi, I am trying to creating an image with tweak and magma on it. I have tried multiple things and I can not get both on the same image. I can get magma on a the current build but not tweak. I can get tweak on a earlier image but not magma. Any help would be appreciated. Keith
