where is the spdf framework?

I'm a beginner. I try to learn the seaside framework. For that I'm looking for the spdf framework, so I can write a pdf file. I tried to find it using monticello. I thought it would be here: http://map1.squeakfoundation.org/package/d8fd5e1a-2bb7-4c99-a77e-f945dfce01… But when I download that, I get an empy .gz file. So I'm afraid I'm doing something wrong. Could someone point me in the right direction please? I'm using the seaside image. Thanks, Van.

I feel a little frustration and also dispair about fielding an answer to your question. The question itself is partly to blame. I know you have some specific apps in mind because you mentioned the OB browser and its options. I also know there is no well known index for documentation else the answer would have come easily. So I have to ask you for help. 1) Can you make us a better question? List a handful of apps you are seeking documentation for. Then 2) What would be the criteria for the documentation being specific for your purposes? 3) How would you expect to find that documentation in the context of what the squeak community provides? 4) Are you willing to contribute some effort to making an enviornment where this documentation is available and can be found within the community? Primitive error handling

Hello, I have another "problem". In windows, my microchip is connected on port 7 (COM7) but I dunno which port number it is in Linux. It is connected in location /dev/ttyUSB0 but I dunno what is its number. I have tried this code to discover it: |n| n := SerialPort new. 1 to: 20 do: [:port | n openPort: port. (n isNil) ifFalse: [Transcript show: port]. n close] but it told me that no port after opening is nil (strange, I thought that on Windows when I tried to open non-existing port, it returned nil). So I have tried another code, reading string from this port by n readString and watching when it does primitiveFailed and when doesn't. But I want only this kind of code (but I dunno how is it named): (n readString isPrimitiveFail) ifFalse: [Transcript show: ...]. How can I do it? Thanks for response. Garret Raziel

App documentation

Hello all, If I look at what I am used to, the Open Source projects, most of these projects have at least some basic documentation on usage. Some have detailed user documentation with examples. Does it work the same with applications found inside Squeak ? For instance, is there a web site for the Monticello packager that has documentation, supportin the form of a mailing list, downloads and such ? Same with the OB browser ? I'm now using the Squeak Dev image which I find very nice. I've tried Pharo but so far the fonts cannot be adjusted and the default fonts are just too ugly to make it it nice to spend time with. Qith the Squeak Dev (and Squeak proper) the first thing I do is put most of fonts to a nice Bitstream Vera Sans 12 points normal that gives a solid look and feel. So now I have a nice environment and there are those apps which seemingly can do quite a few things. is the only documentation on how to use them in a book such as the recent Squeak/Pharo or do these apps have their own doc and support web sites ? The apps themselves do not have a 'help' or 'about' method to find out. OK, I've found the Monticello: http://www.wiresong.ca/Monticello/ Is there a list of the web sites behind the major apps found in Squeak ? Cheers.

Need help for project

Hi, For my final year project i have to develop new GUI for existing software Scratch using its source code.The GUI has to be in scan mode ie various options in GUI will be highlighted one by one and only mouse click event can be used to perform different operations(designed to assist physically challenged persons).For example for a gui having 5 buttons focus will be moving from one button to other.Since i am new to squeak it is very difficult for me to proceed.If any one can provide any e-book or tutorial or some source of information how to manipulate the existing source code it will be very helpful. Timer in Morph

hi, can anyone help me with some code? I want to have a Morph object that change his color by values that squeak gets from SerialPort. I have wroted code of getting values and changing color but I dunno how to do that the morph change its color forever. If i call method "AMorph changeColor" in some to:do: it stucks and shows only last color. I want to use some kind of timer, that will call this method every second and updates this Morph. what must I use?

Get rid of an object

Hello all, Thanks for the comments, they're helpful. When creating and testing objects in the Workspace, what is the procedure for getting rid of any ? Is there a need to do so ? Can objects lay there around without ever being destroyed, their creation (eg. the text that created them) erased from the Workspace. Can created objects linger in the image endlessly ? I presume that while they are still holding data they won't be grabage-collected isn't it ? Al

Using same class names

Hello all, Is there a way to have several classes with the same names and having their scope limited to the current selected category ? Eg. I'd like to experiment with the Abstract factory pattern and thus I would like to make several tests, each in a category, like: AL-AbstractFactory-1 AL-AbstractFactory-2 ... and so on. Each one is a variation and experiment. So I'd like to keep the same class names but Squeak warns me that the CarPartFactory I'm trying to create in AL-AbstractFactory-2 already exists in AL-AbstractFactory-1. Do I have to file the category out, remove it, create a new test, file out that second test, remove it, then file in the first test and such ? In other words, is there a way to quickly switch from one experiment to the other when each of these experiments would use the same class names and probably many of the same method names ? By the way, in the System Browser, the row of buttons labeled browse, senders, implementors, version, inheritance and such has somehow disappeared. Any new System Browser does not have that row of buttons anymore. Is there a way to bring them back short of reverting to the original image. This is Squeak 3.10.2. Thanks for any suggestions, Al
