Squeak by example image

Has anyone played around with Squeak by Example? The only place I can find the image is here: http://gforge.inria.fr/frs/download.php/4624/SqueakByExample-1.3.zip md5sum is here: 79b5df8ba51ae1fa3a852048ba8d27d0 I tried to run it in my Squeak instance. I am running 5.2, but it's not loading. Do I need to load a previous version of squeak? There is no readme file.

Color definition problem with robots

Hello, working through the 'Programming with Robots' book, the next annoyance I've come to is on setting colors for objects/robots (p64 in the book). In the following - simplified - example: | pica | pica := Bot new. pica color: Color red. # all well so far pica color: Color r:1 g:1 b:0 . -this is as per the book but throws up a message 'MessageNotUnderstood: Bot>>color:r:g:b' Trying various syntax changes doesn't help. The text in the book reads: "For example, the expression Color r: 1 g: 0 b: 0 creates the same pure red color that you get from Color red." Maybe I'm missing something obvious, and I know I can use names for the colo(u)rs, but it's annoying to hit a bump like this. Squeak By Example image file

Does the original Squeak By Example image file still exist anywhere? I swear I found it once and can't again. It may have been named SBE.image or something similar. For some reason, I thought this was intended to be used with v4 of Squeak, but according to the book it is for v3.9. Robert Kuropkat

balloon help on halo

Hello everyone, as a newbie here I have one or two queries that I need help with. Firstly, although the halo dots appear when I click + Alt + Shift on the desktop, the balloon help text does not. Balloon text does appear on hovering the mouse cursor over menu item though. This is after a fresh install of version 5.2 (Squeak5.2-18229-64bit-201810190412-Linux) on a Ubuntu virtual machine. The halo feature looks useful, but at the moment is unworkable since the lack of balloon help makes the dots unreadable. Compressing large arrays

Hi, today I learned that I can use #byte64Encoded to compress ByteArrays (and #mimeDecodeToBytes: to uncompress it again). However, I wonder whether there is an option to do the same for arrays that elements' are not limited to bytes. Concretely, I have got an array of integers in range (-20601 to: 20935), so I can map it to 6 or 8 bytes per value. Does Squeak support any way to compress such an array to a stream? Best, Christoph

Committing formatted methods

Hi all, I wonder whether, and how, it is possible to commit formatted methods using Metacello. Recently, I committed a formatted method but when I merged the commit from another image, the style was not loaded. Is this possible in any way? Best, Christoph
