What about taking a training course in another dialect e.g Cincom Smalltalk. How transferable would that be?
I found the documentation which came with Cincom Smalltalk to be invaluable in getting over the 'hump'. In particular the daily 'screencasts' by James Robertson. Like much information about software written by seasoned experts there are a number of places where he forgets that what comes naturally and without any conscious thought to him is, for a brand new learner, a vital fact. But that is a fact of life when trying to learn any complex software system.
