I see that the Spanish eToys translation is at 61%
Now, much Squeak work has been done in Spain.
It might be a Fraggle Rock moment for me, or maybe there's a good reason it has not been done before, but I am curious, could the Squeak .es version be ported somehow?

Our Japanese translation is about 51% and yours is much better than ours :-) And I don't think the number is so bad. While you are saying "eToys translation", effort include functionalities that are not frequently used in typical Etoys workshop and underlying Squeak system and tools. I think phrases that haven't translated yet, haven't revealed enough, and your number (and even our number) have been good enough for typical Etoys usage.

If you have legacy translation in image, this could be exported to PO and merged into working PO.
And there is translation file by LinEx folks that Es community could merge. http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/6911 (I don't know if merge work have been done actually)

Yama,
I just sent an email, but the reason is largely that the biggest translation effort was done before the OLPC Etoys effort got traction; i.e., Spanish version was fine but The new changes on the base system obsoleted some of the existing translation and the users of LinEx didn't really have the reason to translate these new phrases.
So, if you can organize the translation effort, that would be great!

Yoshiki,
I got into this precisely because I was trying to volunteer someone else
:-)
Now, I am meaning to coordinate that translation project for Aymara Sugar in October in Bolivia, and with God's grace go all the way to complete Etoys as well as the rest.
It might be that as a by-product we complete the Spanish as well, but hopefully that will be done before the August release, whose main market is the upgrade for the Spanish speaking countries anyway, or so I hope...
thank you for thinking of me, I feel honored, and wish I could do it.
I will keep an eye on how things are. If nobody stands up I'll see about shifting other priorities, because I think this is very, very important to complete the OLPC offer to Uruguay and Peru.

Hi, Yama,
As Korakurider wrote, the way it should go now is to check:
https://dev.laptop.org/attachment/ticket/6911/linex_es-080603.po
https://dev.laptop.org/attachment/ticket/6911/conflicts-080604.zip
and make a good version on the web. It wouldn't be overwhelmingly too much effort, I hope.
It is hard to tell that who should be doing the coordination work. It sounds like the timing is not good for you. If Antonio and José can do it, that would be great, too. I know that there are many potentials in the Spanish speaking users. But organizing organizers is not easy from outside. The simplest thing is somebody just resolve them and it should grow around it...
