[ANN] Squeak Cryptography Certification Validation Officer

All, We are very pleased to announce the addition of a new team member. Krishna Sankar is joining our team as the new Squeak Cryptography Certification Validation Officer. The goal of this position is to set a path for the cryptography team to ensure that the Squeak Cryptography code meets the FIPS common criteria http://niap.bahialab.com/cc-scheme/cc_docs/index.cfm which a first step on the path to FIPS certification. Krishna has a distinguished security background, has worked with a number of government standards, has lead a workshop for Cisco on NIST PKI http://middleware.internet2.edu/pki04/ , is a lead author for Cisco Press WLAN Security book - http://www.ciscopress.com/authors/bio.asp?a=9ed11cfa-9067-4205-8110-76358f31 7825&rl=1 , and also contributes to OLPC. We are very excited to have Krishna join our efforts. We are still searching for volunteers. I would like to encourage anyone that is even remotely interested in cryptography to join our efforts. If you need cryptography in your applications, working on our common criteria validation effort will help you learn about cryptography and will teach you about the common criteria process so that you can apply what you learn to your own application. We are working to divide the tasks into manageable chunks so that individual developers can pick up a single piece and contribute. We are organizing the effort so that we can track, validate and get proper feedback as to our progress. We have no deadline, only a path to follow. Wonder about the ways to handle 'time' in Squeak. For example, LOGO has commands for wait/waituntil x amount, or 'timing'. Highlights of the week: The open source release of the Strongtalk VM is causing quite a stir in the Squeak community, having already spawned lively discussions on the Squeak-dev mailing list. seeing inherited methods

Hi ! In squeak I haven't managed yet to see inherited methods. For instance subclassB extends superclassA. superclassA has several methods. However, when I like at the methods of subclassB, I cannot see the methods of superclassA (but there should be there). Warakorn --------------------------------- All-new Yahoo! Getting rid of Holders

This is probably the most basic question, but I cannot find the answer on Google or the Squeak wiki... How do you get rid of Holders, Playfields, and Books off the main Playfield? VM Building questions

Gentlefolk, I've started playing with VM building and I've got a few questions, perhaps observations for which I was unable to find answers/confirmations. Using: Win32 system, v1545 out of SVN repo; VMMakerTool The following plugins don't have an platform specific files: FileCopyPlugin and InternetConfigPlugin The following plugins fail when VM generation is attempted. BalloonEnginePlugin, BitBltSimulation, DeflatePlugin, FFTPlugin, HostWindowPlugin, JoystickTabletPlugin, JPEGReadWriter2Plugin, LargeIntegersPlugin, Mpeg3Plugin, RePlugin, SerialPlugin, SocketPlugin, SoundCodecPlugin, SoundPlugin.** I did not attempt to "generate" MacMenubarPlugin, MIDIPlugin, or TestOSAPlugin. general questions about squeak

Hi, I`m new in squeak, but not in smalltalk. I have some questions about the environment of squeak that will help me to understand it. - Firstly, I would like to know how the startup process of squeak is, as detailed as possible. - Second, MVC projects are just wrapped from morphic?. Later I will explain why I want to know this. - Third, who is responsible of opening the main window and if it`s possible to open other windows without using wxWidgets or something like that. Is it hardcoded in the vm or elsewhere? Why I`m asking these questions? Because I`m interested in using squeak as an alternative for small commercial projects. I want to know if it`s viable of developing an MVC with at least one look and feel and a little core of widgets. I have a look at BobsUI but it`s build on Morphic. Regards Esteban
