Laser game tutorial - test runner - page 018.html

OK in the Test Runner I see the Laser-Game-Tests in the left panel. When I click on the failed tests method in stead of getting a debugger I get a Syntax Error popup. Which says in the top pain: 'Object Kernel-Objects Block' and in the lower pain I get: Block stringIndexNothing more expected ->]]. ^ true Where may I have done something wrong? How should I proceed to find the root of this problem. Fantastic tutorial, I'm really enjoying it. I can't wait to continue. If you open up a Workspace and enter some text, then close it, you get the message: "Changes have not been saved. Is it OK to cancel those changes?" If you answer yes, the window closes and all text is gone If you answer no, and then save, and then close, you get no message. The window closes. And the text is just as gone as it was when you didn't save it. Now, I've found that saving the text allows you to revert to it with an "undo". And it's happened at least once that I could save text in a workspace, open a new "blank" workspace and "undo" to the last saved text, though that doesn't always seem to work. What's the desired behavior?

Environment Font Questions

Hi, could someone recommend a default that I can use instead of the default image's font? The current font is simply too small and causing eye strain. Thanks in advance, -Conrad

Morphic Tutorial for Basic Window Functions

I am looking for a tutorial that covers basic window management: how to put a window on the screen on the screen, draw a form, gather data from the fields and return the user reponses to the application. I can find morphic tutorials that show how to animate something and do cool stuff, but not how to do the basics. I am new to smalltalk and any help is appreciated. tut game

on the game tut I have been able to enter all the classes etc all the way to where we want to run the test browser. When I open the test browser and scroll to the bottom my Laser...test is not listed. I check the different projects and they are all named as noname 1 and noname 2 I have saved as I though Laser-Game but this does not show up in the project window when I open jump to or previous project. How do I solve this problem and is this why I do not get my laser test in the run test browser? Is there a previous tut that would prepare me to do this tut on the game? Thanks for your patients and time, I am a true beginner. Chuck

MC conversion case study (How would I ...)

I've not been using MC1 in a while. And mere curiosity has me wondering how to turn a game application from a well packaged snapshot into an mcz package and then how to turn it back into a well packaged snapshot again. The game for this exercise is dicewars. The exercise is for learning only and to satisfy my curiosity (as always). The game is one of those available for the oplc. Small projects for Squeak on the $100 laptop page at: http://www.swa.hpi.uni-potsdam.de/projects/olpc/ It runs on 3.9 and 3.10 (7121) as well as the oplc image and presumably 3.8. It is a nice game and I have enjoyed playing it. So to play it requires being downloaded. Then gunziped. from .gz format. Then drag and drop the .st file onto a open squeak window. Select the first option (load into a separate change set.) Get a new Objects tool from the world menu>>objects... There will be a games button and a red die will be there for you to select. Bringing up the game. However for this exercise we are not here to play the game but to findout how to save it as a MC object. And here's where I'm stuck. I can bring up a MC browser. But it contains no info on the DiceWars system catagory. What is available to me to inform MC that I now want this to be a MC package? What's the most elegant way to do this? Squeak Tutorial

Hello everyone, I'm new to Squeak and mailing lists in general. I will be going to Impara for a short internship and am trying to get an overview of Squeak. I'm using the Squeak-Tutorial at http://squeak.preeminent.org/tut2007/html/index.html. However, in Section I, part 9, I'm required to use the testCellOnState method I created. I'm to open the Test Runner and the category "Laser-Game-Tests" is supposed to appear. The problem is that it doesn't. I double-checked all previous steps and they're okay, but it still doesn't work.
