Reading only parts of images, tiles

Hi, Is there any class which is able to read only a specific part of a given image? I can read and display entire images with "Forms" just fine, but it does not seem to permit me reading only parts of it. The reason i'm asking this is because i want to implement a simple tile graphics engine, so i need a way to break down images into single parts. Thanks in advance, Peter Schneider

Looking for another moderator for the Beginners mailing list

Hi all, Bob and I are looking for a volunteer to act as third moderator for the Beginners mailing list, in order to help us with the administrative requests. Most of the work consists in just going once every couple of days thru the administrative requests, approve the valid messages and discard the invalid/spam ones. GroupingMorph: how to distribute it?

Surprised that the SelectionMorph does not support a "group" action, I wrote one myself. This involved a one line addition to SelectionMorph>>addCustomMenuItems:hand: and a new method SelectionMorph>>group. The new method I placed in a category *groupingmorph (or some such). Then, I wrote a simple new class, GroupingMorph, which implemented the rest of it. Now, this all fits nicely into a Monticello package, except for the crucial one line addition to SelectionMorph>>addCustomMenuItems, which is in package Morphic-Support. If I want to post this package, say on SqueakMap, how do I handle this pesky one line change? Do I have to distribute my own version of Morphic-Support as well? (tell me it isn't so ...) Or do I simply distribute it all as a changeset? cheers, Simon PS: Is this a beginner list question, or better asked on squeak-dev?

Silly question, but is it possible to open a second, named Transcript window? I can create a second TranscriptStream, but can't figure out how to open it in World. -- John

I've changed the button colors, as you've suggested. In the second screen capture, I've raised the halo. The halo surrounds the Quit button. The Fire button is covered by the Quit button, with only the top portion of the Fire button protruding. Morphic buttons in Laser Game tutorial

I've been working through Stephen Wessel's fantastic Laser Game tutorial, and have enjoyed the process a great deal. I've gotten to the part where the tutorial describes using Morphic to create the UI for the game. http://squeak.preeminent.org/tut2007/html/068.html When I get to the part where tutorial describes creating the 'Fire' and 'Quit' buttons, though, I get an unexpected result. The buttons are vastly oversized. I've checked the code and the tutorial several times, so I don't think I've typed in any erroneous code. I've also browsed the PluggableButtonMorph class to see if I could remedy the problem by finding out which methods to call to re-size the buttons into something that approximates what the tutorial describes. Yet I have not been able to do so. Can someone help me out with this section of the tutorial? Dictionary and order

Hi, is the order of elements in a dictionary preserved? I mean if I can assume that the first element added stays the first element in associations, keys and values? thanks, Norbert

Best way to implement two-dimensional array

This is a smalltalk question, but hopefully not too off-topic... I need a lookup table object... something to which I can send a message like: anElement := myTable index1: #aSymbol index2: #anotherSymbol The underlying structure is actually a table... rows and columns... and I want to be able to fetch elements in the table. I am thinking myTable should hold a dictionary of dictionaries, (a hash of hashes, I might say if using another language), but I am wondering if there is a more smalltalk-ish way to do this? Any suggestions much appreciated. -- John
