Installation Scripts

Can someone give me a "primer" on writing installation scripts? I have trying to proactively prepare for disaster recovery, and am now able to do something like: packageCache:='C:\Documents and Settings\robr\My Documents\proj\squeak\development packages\'. Installer installFile: packageCache,'ODBC-rjriv.1.cs'. Which, of course, assumes that my packages are in a directory I can get to from my machine. However, I know other options are available to me, such as grabbing packages directly from the network and automating answers to any Requests. Any tips? Thanks, Rob

This has been sent to both the Squeak-dev list and the squeak beginners list For those of you that don't know me, I am a 14 year old programmer. I want to write something useful, but I don't have any ideas! I have always had this problem, with any language, and, all of the problems that have been going around on the mailing lists seem to hard for me to work on, as I am not very proficient as a developer and I am looking for some easy beginner projects! Seaside vs. AIDA

I don't want to start a war here, but I have been through the first steps with both Seaside and AIDA/Web, enough to build the start of a web site. Before I make the commitment to one or the other, I wonder if anyone has done a recent, objective comparison between the two ? They both seem very capable. I felt like I turned out a better looking product a little easier with AIDA, but I sense that Seaside has a much larger following. I also wonder if continuations are that important to me. They also have a great many similarities. To the point where I think I could change AIDA to use a lot of Seaside if not the other way around. Any real experiences between the two will be most appreciated. This is a major decision point for me. Code Packaging Questions

Can you package code with Monticello that needs a preamble and/or postscript, or do you have to use a changeset for that? Can you tell a package what other packages it needs to load and in what order? As an example, I was trying to take the ODBC changeset and modify it so it doesn't replace the Timestamp class. However, it loads System Dictionary constants in a preamble, so I didn't know if you could put that in a Monticello package or not. Finally, I wanted to try combining that with the ODBCEnh package just for kicks to see how that would work. Thanks, Rob Rothwell

Finding out a TextMorph cursor position

Hi guys, short question. Is it possible to find out the cursor position of the cursor as I type? I mean in terms of a numerical position? Like when I type 'abc' into an empty field, the cursor position should be 3. But when I click somewhere, say between the a and b, the cursor location should return 1. Is it possible to find this out? For two hours I'm looking in any conceivable code and have not found anything for it.
