Hiya, This has probably been asked a gazillion times, but with the 3.9 release, I was wondering if anything had been done about the embedded Apple Fonts and the current Squeak Licence. In plain terms I would like to know that if I do not modify any underlying code, and I preserve the licence with the 'application', that I can create any application with Squeak and distribute it for free or for profit. A little clearer: I create a Squeak image, tailored to a specific requirement (let's say for example: A game) that I can then give away or sell. Cheers, Luis.

Deleting mistakes

I'm new to Squeak, so please bear with me. I'm doing the Magritte Tutorial and have accidently created a class method that I misnamed. How can I delete a class method? I don't find this in any of the documentation or the White book. Also, how do I properly classify methods when adding them? (i.e. proper selection in pane left of method listing). what no Smalltalk at OOPSLA2006?

[Newbie Perspective] I was looking for tutorials, tracks or just about anything related to Smalltalk, Seaside at Oopsla2006 in Portland on October 22-26. I was disappointed to see that there isn't any Smalltalk related topic - what's up with that? -bakki PS: These are the closest things I could find- Dynamic Languages Symposium (Program/Venues) ...ussion of dynamic languages, their implementation and applications. While mature dynamic languages including Smalltalk, Lisp, Scheme, and Prolog T48: Totally Awesome Computing: Python as a General-Purpose Programming Language (Submission/Tutorials) ...nd their knowledge of the principles of programming languages, since advanced language features (like novel, SmallTalk-like applications of polymorphism) are so easy to teach in Python. Format: The p... ---sad to see that only mention of Smalltalk is to make a point that Python is great!

Making a Book on Squeak: Accented spanish characters and other questions

Hi all, I'm trying to make a book using the BookMorph object on squeak and I'm facing various questions: * The first problem is with Spanish accented characters (á, é, í, ó, ú). Other spanish characters like "ñ" work fine. I have been searching on Internet and asking in #squeak. I have defined LC_CTYPE and LC_ALL on my Linux system and restarted Squeak. Still I have not support for the accented chars. I see this message from terminal: setlocale() failed (check values of LC_CTYPE, LANG and LC_ALL) and when I made the echo on that variables I get: ANSI, "es_CO.UTF-8" and es_CO, respectively, so all of them are defined. ¿What else needs to be done? * I would like to see how flash integrates with Squeak. Because I have not previous expertise with that format I have downloaded some flash demos on the web in .swf format. I can see them in the file loader of squeak, but when I try to open them it warnings me about the versionformat of the file (it says that file is version 5 or 6 of the format and the supported version is 3). After that I get a error message or an empty window with the play and stop buttons but nothing on them. Can please somebody point me to flash content that can be seeing on Squeak? * Can I made a vertical flap inside the book morph for a table of content? I can put the vertical flap on the book, but I can't see if is possible to put some kind of table of contents on it. Can this table of content be like a the browser files with hierarchical Items for every content (in the same way as a pdf viewer or like the file system browser show directories and subdirectories). * How can I put a project inside a project. I remembered some kind of drag & drop action, but at this moment seems not working. * There is a object that is like a book with flaps in its upper side. How can I change the text on the flaps, add more content and made that when I made click on a flat the book preserves the same size in all the flaps? Thanks a lot. Offray

Otra de tarjetas wifi

Resulta que estoy probando un parche para poder meter el driver de las tarjetas wifi que traen los centrino en la little. El driver ipw2200 sólo vale para los kernels 2.6 y el parche es precisamente para los kerneles 2.4.x como el de little debian. Como sobre el parche este hay CERO documentación me he pasado toda la tarde para parchearlo con la versión correcta, instalar el firmware que era, etc... Total, que ya me detecta la tarjeta, carga el firmware y todo e incluso me detecta automáticamente el punto de acceso de mi casa. PERO, no conecta ni a la de tres. Dhclient no rula. Changing the language to Spanish on Squeak3.9g

Hi all, I'm using various images of Squeak, but I would like to practice with the next one. So I downloaded and updated the Squeak3.9g image and now in the "about this system" on the Squeak flap I get: Squeak3.9gamma latest update: #7061 Current Change Set: Unnamed I enabled the option "show the main docking bar" and then go to the "Configuration" menu and tried to change the language to Spanish, but I get this error message: MessageNotUnderstood: TTCFont >> FontArray And I get the message again and again browsing between projects. Another thing is that, if I made a new project. I can see the shared tabs, but not the main docking bar. In that case I need to disable and enable it again to see it in the project. ¿Any pointer to a solution? Thanks, Offray

Where are the step-by-step tutorials for Squeak beginners? I would expect the basic tutorials to show up on the newly-installed Squeak image as projects, like the Readme and Smalltalk Introduction projects. Where can I find a tutorial that will show me how to build a project that will load, edit, and save a text file, and deploy that project on Win, Mac, and Linux? Assurances that I could "simply browse for the information" in the image would not be helpful. Neither would pointers to SqueakMap, until they detailed a basic tutorial project. ---- Jerry Muelver
