Hi All I've been trying to intercept command key shortcuts. I was able to do it in TextMorph by changing the method handler in ParagraphEditor -- I was not able to change the key binding with a new method name however. Is there an easier way -- for Morph in general. Thanks in advance. Steve

Hi David You can download the RefactoryBrowser from squeakmap or you can download and install the refactoryengine from http://squeaksource.com/ @ehoWsqHVuXjcUYEx/wpgyyYAP. If you look at the menu from the second top pane ( the class pane ) in the browser the submenu under instance variables will create accessors for you. Steve

getters, setters, attr?

Howdy, I'm coming to Smalltalk from Ruby (from Java.) Ruby has a nice construct: attr :attribute_name[,true] The construct generates a getter (and an optional setter if the true flag is included) for the named attribute (instance variable.) Is there a similar shortcut to generating getters and setters in Smalltalk/Squeak? I'm not interested in turning on #autoAccessors as I want control over the getters and setters. Thanks in advance. MS Font gives Square box glyphs in TextMorphs: why?

Hi, I can type text into a TextMorph with a native Squeak font, and pressing return gives me what I desire, i.e. invisible newlines to space out my paragraphs. However, if I change the font to, say, Microsoft Comic Sans (which I installed by dragging and dropping the font file from a Windows Explorer onto the Squeak image), I get square boxes for the carriage return characters. Ugh. Can I make these square boxes invisible with this font, and if so, how? Using Squeak 3.8-6665 on Windows/XP. cheers, Simon

Making a Lemmings/Pingus Clone on Squeak

Hi all, I'm teaching Squeak to my students as a part to Introduction to Informatics (not to computer sciences[1]) to my students. I want to make a collective project with them. The idea is to create a microcommunity of problem solvers using computer artefacts (specially Squeak), so I want that the project to be made involves in someway the idea of solving a project collectively. The idea is also that the problem to solve be a collective/collaborative game, so I'm thinking about creating a lemmings clone in Squeak. [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Informatics [2] http://pingus.seul.org/ I'm a newbie on Squeak, but I want to learn with my students, so my questions are: * ¿What is necessary to make this game? * If I want to make a collective project solving, ¿what tools could be learned also (control version systems like monticello) and wich infrastructures can be used for that? * From the experience using the Drawing tool and from the one in the Car that doesn't get out of the way, I was thinking that may be the scenary for this game could be some kind of drawing and that pinguins will follow some kind of preexisting path on the scenary, but one of them can erase part of the drawing, if the proper task is gave to it (erasing the floor would be like digging). Any other help on this problem wold be nice. three button mice on windows and macs

Hi All, I am pretty new to Squeak. I just wrote a minimal parser of some configuration files and started to feel comfortable in the environment. Now since a few years I mostly use macs but at my new job I will have to work with Windows again. So I loved that fact that I can open my Squeak image on OSX and XP and just use the tools that I create in squeak on both systems. On both systems I have three button mice. Because the scroll wheel (middle) button is rather hard to press I am using it to get the halos, with the right mouse button used for the context menu. Now I found the general preference to set this up, but the behavior is inverse on windows than on macs. So when switching platforms I always have to change the preference. Did I overlook another setting or a configuration file that would fix this? Or in which class (or possibly where in the VM code) would be a good place to fix this? Best regards, Rainer Keller

Undeclared variable issue

The following code doesn't execute in my Squeak workspace | n | n <- 5 factorial. n printString because it insists that n is undeclared despite that I have declare the it in the first line of the 3 line code fragment. (I highlight all 3 lines and use the "do it" to execute it.) What is going here - this is valid Smalltalk syntax? Thanks, Edward

HELP!! can't use windows in a proper way

hi this is the first mail a send to this list, so I'll introduce my self, I'm an Argentinian systems engineering student from UTN (national tecnological university) introduction done here's the thing: I'm implementing a genetic algorithm in squeak I've found an implementation but a wanted to do it my self, I managed to make all the code from the algorithm itself but i can't find the way to display it properly, on a nice window, I have implemented printOn: in all my classes so i'm able to print all my individuals and populations what i need is to have graphics of how they evolve and put them on a window i know how to create a window but I don't how to put things on them, and I've browse the senders of addMorph: Frame: but I dont understand them. any help is good for me thanks pd:I LOVE SMALLTALK CAN'T USE ANOTHER LANGUAGE SINCE I LEARNED A BIT OF IT -- Gonzalo, Romano
