I think for the next release, take the code available at:
http://tracker.squeakland.org/browse/SQ-283
as the starting point and add necessary support for multi-platform and
some UI and we can confortably switch to a better in-Squeak TrueType
support. Before that, loading all glyph information in the image is a
bit too expensive in the international setting. For Japanese version,
there is an image distributed with TTF loaded, and I believe there is
a Korean version like that as well. Hopefully we can provide a better
basis for such efforts as well.

The betas at http://squeakland.org/download/ are almost done. So
you can check them out. Basically 15 points BitstreamVeraSans is used
for most places.
> 3. Finally, how you apply to Japanese font in Etoys 4.0?
For the official one, similar to Koreans. Bundle the bitmap font
for now (but separated Etoys image for Japanese workshop organizers).

One idea is to have 4.0.1 release soon and incorporate the
translations. But, 4.0 may not be able to have enough translations,
unfortunately.

Hi everyone,
We'll be meeting tomorrow at 3pm ET, 11pm PT in IRC on the #etoys
channel.
The meeting will last one hour, and will be the last group opportunity
to discuss the Etoys 4.0 release, which is slotted for next Wednesday.
See you then,
Tim

Hi Yoshiki & Edward & All !
Sorry for the late reply.
uKoreaFont2.out(in http://squeak.kr/data/FontKoreanEnvironment.sar)is okey!
This font is bitmap type.
And I have four question.
1. Can we use the true type font? If we will be able to use ttf, we could
send some good ttf(for Hangul).
2. How about default font size in Etoys 4.0?
3. Finally, how you apply to Japanese font in Etoys 4.0?
BTW, how long I have time for translation Etoys 4.0?
Thanks you for your interest!! :)

Hello.
I 've noticed recent POT change for saving dialog etc in 2279.
POs on Pootle right now is 2258 based.
Will we have opportunity to translate the strings and test them in
beta for 2009 (late) summer release,
or will we need to wait for next development cycle (winter release) as
we missed the key milestone?

Hi everyone,
I'd like to hear some discussion about Etoys version numbers. We've
long relied on build numbers with rather weak major.minor version
consistency.
Moving forward, I'm in favor of the way iTunes does it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes_version_history (scroll to
bottom)
In particular, we call generally major releases "Etoys 4" and "Etoys
5", with the internal version numbers having the form 4.1.1.
We can still list the build number in the about, but I'm leaning
towards not requiring users to even know what that is.
Also, I'd like to create a version history for Etoys that puts
everything in context and shows that it's a mature product. Both on
the website and wikipedia, etc.
Etoys 3 is the OLPC one (with toolbar on top).
Where's the demarcation between Etoys 1 and 2, and Etoys 2 and 3?
Take care,
Tim
Hi,
I'm forwarding this to the Etoys developer list, someone will know the
answer :)

Hi all,
Just a reminder . . .Etoys 4.0 code freeze is 7am GMT on Saturday
(midnight PT).
The installers we create then will be "release candidates" for next
Wednesday's release.
Take care,
Tim
As people are probably aware, a .png thumbnail of an etoys project is
now put inside the outer .pr file, but for the time being we haven't
removed the .gif thumbnail that historically has been put placed
*alongside* (rather than *within*) the outer .pr file. See: http://tracker.immuexa.com/browse/SQ-274
Several people have advocated removing the .gif file; it clutters up
the Squeaklets directory, for one thing, and it's now redundant, and
has only been retained for compatibility with Superswiki and possibly
Superswiki 2.
Now the question arises afresh: should we now stop producing the .gif
file -- thus requiring Superswiki and other clients who may be
interested in a thumbnail to use the embedded .png file?
On the JIRA ticket, in early August, Antonio reported 'That's Masashi
answer: "As I seen the code, I think the modification would be quite
trivial. I welcome the new, refactored project format."'.
So... do people think the time has now come (in advance of final
shipment of this summer's release) to remove the .gif?

Hi everyone,
Web chat and our logging bot "waverly" is down ... I suspect freenode
blocked the server last night, not sure why. I had a few extra
waverly's running around that time (I was fixing a bug), so maybe
that's it.
Or it could be abuse through the web chat (only works for #etoys, and
didn't see anyone new).
I sent a request to unblock.
Just FYI.
