Interaction with non-Seaside site

Avi and Julian, Suppose your Seaside site user interaction goes something like this: 1. Choose your product 2. Pay 3. Process the sale Now suppose you want step 2 (Pay) to take place on Verisign's site. It would be nice if I could model this using the component call: mechanism already in place. eg, I would call WAPaymentStep which would forward the user to the Verisign site and answer a PaymentResponse upon "returning" from Verisign's site. There are two parts to this problem: 1. Sending them to the payment site and 2. receiving them back to Seaside after payment. 1. This part is easy: WAPaymentStep presents a form to the user that upon submission posts the necessary variables to the payment site. 2. This is the hard part. Here's my plan so far... WAPaymentStep needs to register a callback that would a) process the POST from Verisign site (their response) and create a PaymentResponse object b) return the Payment Response using #answer:. What I would like is: Example code on how to register an arbitrary callback block. Does such a callback have access to POST variables? If not, can you suggest another way to get posted variables into a smalltalk object which gets "returned" using #answer: ? I can imagine another Seaside service called "VerisignService" who's job it is to accept responses from Verisign and leave an appropriate PaymentResponse in a "mailbox" to be picked up by WAPaymentStep. VerisignService then calls some continuation to "wake up" the WAPaymentStep, which "checks its mail" and returns the PaymentResponse using #answer: . Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you. Broken Seaside on SqueakMap

Hi! I would like to ask if it is a good idea to change the standard components and dialogs (like inform: or confirm:) to be wrapped in a css class (for example 'inform', 'confirm') to make them changeable for the programmer without the need to alter the seaside code? Or is it better to build a own subclassed version of WAComponent? Regards, Markus

using inheritance to describe look'n'feel

Hi A question about OO design: Class WADialog gives you basic Dialog behaviour. It seems to me that I might like to subclass this in two orthogonal directions: either (1) to give different look'n'feels, ie by overriding #renderContentOn, or (2) to give extra behaviour on top of the standard Dialog (ie build something more complex, that also IS-A Dialog). I have the feeling that (2) is the 'real' inheritance tree here. Which suggests to me that perhaps the variation allowed by (1), which is also necessary, should be modelled by delegation rather than inheritance. But what would this look like? It might look like a separate View class per Controller. But I seem to remember reading somewhere on this list that you deliberately decided to merge the V and C of MVC into seaside's 'Component' concept. Does this chime with anyone else? Or am I just missing something. anchors behaving like buttons?

Omnibase with Seaside

Given that Omnibase doesn't currently have file locking, could I make it work as a backend to a Seaside application? ie., is it safe to have one db instance that all sessions use, or would I run into concurrency issues? Secure Connection?

Hello, I'm wondering if how Seasiders handle the secure connections. It doesn't seem that there is no built in SSL capability. I'm going to use DeleGate (http://www.delegate.org) to tunnel the plain connection over SSL, but is there any other (common) way to do this? -- Yoshiki

Traditional Business Apps in Seaside (was Suggestions for related complex data)

Hello: I really haven't anything important to contribute rather than I want to ask about developing exactly that type of apps, with strong interactions between data, something as the entity-relation model, where each entity (table) has data from another entity (table). In the relational model a very good product to develop easily that type of apps with very related data from several tables is MS-Access, making easy to develop data entry forms with data of another tables (showing in combos by example). Also a powerful report generator make easy to obtain the info stored in the db, sumarizing, averaging, etc. I'm very interested in develop that type of app in Seaside and truly objects (NOT using relational databases) but not sure about the best way to be productive and get all the results that I can obtain with Access. Will be very useful for me any advice (or best) some examples of that type of apps developed in Seaside. Also an opinion if that type of app are indicated to solve in Squeak or Seaside or could be better to solve in the traditional approach (bd + access or another RAD tools). Suggestions for related complex data?

Hi! I'm writing to ask for Ideas how to set related complex data? Say, I have a record "article", and want to set the relation to a distributor, how do I do it best? Known possibilities: 1. a selection list (selectFromList:selected:callback:label) with a button for adding new distributors from the article form. 2. a link to my distributor-listing application, causing a "select" button on the right side to appear. Pros and cons: 1. Pro: Selection of a distributor "in place", no need to switch to a new page and switch back. Con: not very concise with many distributors 2. Pro: concise, the user knows the distributor-listing application. Con: A new page, interrupting the "keyboard" flow of the user. Are there other possibilities (javascript, popups)? Stylesheets of child components?

Hi! I have a question (maybe my way of solving the problem is just wrong): I have a (navigation-) component with an instance variable "activeApp". In Navigation>>#renderContentOn: I do "activeApp renderContentOn: html". This way, the stylesheet in "activeApp" will not be published... So how do I embed several views in a navigation component?
