small seaside image

A while ago I mentioned on this list a stripped 3.7-based Seaside image that was around 7.5MB. A couple of people have emailed me offlist asking for it, and I've finally gotten around to actually putting one up somewhere. You can grab it from: http://smallthought.com/avi/Seaside2.6.zip This includes Scriptaculous and is up to, I think, around 7.8MB now. Let me know if there are any problems getting or using it. Avi

Swazoo versions

Hi, Today I was playing with the published version of Seaside made by Avi Bryant the last week, which uses the Swazoo version for Dolphin made by Sean Malloy, to add some missing functionalities I had working in my earlier port of Seaside to Dolphin. Considering to what Sean says in his website, the port is based on the 0.9.101 version, while Steve Waring's one is based on 0.9.99 (apparently). Sean's version is more conscise in terms of number of packages, but it misses some classes such as SwazooSiteScript and other very useful tools, available in Steve's version. Considering that the Swazoo topic got warm this days, and that today it's more a jungle than a zoo ;-), we could arrange some efforts to make it converge into a single stream of development, at least compatible with what already exists in Dolphin. For example, you can't have Seaside and Spray web services running on the same image, because they're incompatible (besides the fact that the naming convention of Steve is different to the Sean's one*). Plus, Dolphin ships with Steve's version, which is appropriate considering the existing goodies and packages available, but not the best option aiming to a broader audience through Seaside and other popular developments that would come. I leave the topic here, to see if there is enough interest to make it happen. I would like to see Sean, Steve, Janko, the OA people, perhaps Bruce Badger too, and anybody willing to collaborate at least in testing, joining efforts for this. Field validation?

Morning, The round of questioning continues. How would I go about doing field validation nicely? Say, an amount field that contains a valid description of a numeric amount. I can think of three ways of doing it: - Client side JavaScript: is there any abstraction model for this in Seaside or Scriptaculous? - Server side processing: could validate the fields in the form submit callback and return back to the form with some feedback - AJAX: could validate the field on the server as soon as user leaves it, any good examples of this? Wrong URLs with Internet Explorer (again)

Hi: This is a problem that I've found time ago. Then was not very important because I can manage to use only Firefox, but now I must to expose to Internet a customer application and works ok with Firefox, but when I try to access it using IE, all the urls look bad, as by example: http:///seaside/counter. "Something" is removing the "localhost:port" or "IP:port" from the url, but I can't figure out what thing is generating this behavior. Inside my applications also the "IP:port" look stripped from all the urls. I've tried playing with Resource Base URL and Server Hostname from seaside configuration, but can't solve the problem. I must say also that I'm using ShoreComponents. Any help will be appreciated. Cheers. gsa.

Tooltip with script.aculo.us

hello out there, allthough i browsed throught the archives i couldn`t find the answer to my problem. i want to serve a jpg-file which is stored in a Form object. so i do : aForm _ (Form fromFileNamed: 'wave.jpg') then i tried the following inside the #renderContentOn: method : html imageWithDocument: aForm bits asByteArray mimeType: 'image/jpeg' fileName: root name,'Picture', '.jpg'. this doesn`t work, and when i am acceptin the following, seaside seems to convert the jpg file to gif or wracks up the picture file somehow : html imageWithDocument: aForm mimeType: 'image/jpeg' fileName: root name,'Picture', '.jpg'. anybodys having some experience with this issue? thanks for help! martin

Dialogs as sub-components

I've returned to using Seaside for a project a long, long time (like 2 years?) after having first worked with it and, basically, I'm starting all over again in my understanding. I want a component/app that is basically a table of items and below that a textarea to add more items to the table (one per line). I was thinking that the form would be a sub-component and so I created a WAFormDialog subclass and it has an #ok method which #answer:s a collection of the items found after processing the string from the textarea. My thought was then that in the parent component's #renderContentOn: it would self call: an instance of the dialog and that would return the collection of items found. However I'm finding that the result of a #call: the entire page is replaced by the dialog. And using #render: does not return the result. Where am I going wrong? Also while I'm here I might as well make a call for anyone with the time to come by #squeak since we do occasionally have Seaside questions come up (this being a case in point). Ken

Dolphin Port - trouble with WATree

Hi, I tried to use the WATreeExample but I get a very strange error, which can not be debugged and then eventually the image freezes whenever I try to open a node of the WATreeExample. "IdentitySets do not respond to keyed accessing messages". Avi, could you check why this happens? Thanks, Günther
