Dynamic bindings...howto?

I guess I mean "dynamically scoped variables." I'm trying to leverage KomService's dynamic variable binding support but I'm having problems. Before I waste an entire night on it I thought that I'd ask if anyone is using it successfully. I just want to make sure that I'm not going nuts. Anyway, here's what I'm doing...it seems simple enough: In the Kom services service for StarBrowser I stopped the server, picked "edit bindings" and then in the resulting inspector on an instance of DynamicBindings I evaluated: self at: #TestMyBinding put: 1234. started the server (it looks like the start method actually establishes the current set of bindings for a server) and then in my renderContentOn: for one of my components I added html text: #TestMyBinding binding printString. loaded the component in a fresh web browser window but the binding shows up as nil. I verified that the HttpService which is running does indeed have my bindings in it's bindings i-var. Searching the web for docs hasn't turned up much. I did play with manually clamping the bindings and that seems to work but I would like set of bindings for my running server (to use for configuration management). David -- C. Seside ... Java Server Faces...

Hi all! I am suing seaside in a small project on my own. In my all-day job I am forced to java :( and I am searching something of similar to seaside to work with. I have used the Struts framework, but my productivity is very low (and slow) because I need to write 2-3 classes and a lot of xml to model a simple form and a single request. Complexity grows fast and I am not so sure this is a good design model :) I'd like to know if there is something of similar to Seaside (a similar port or so on) for java. Java Server Faces are very similar to Seaside ideas but are fair complex and still beta. wingS is a good idea, but very very heavy: <http://wings.mercatis.de/tiki-index.php> because for every single-click it generates a request I am searching something with a "Fat Client" architecture and a Seaside like approach... In two words, I'd like to develop a Model, and a seside-like view. The framework should generate a javascript-enabled-html page which do some elaboration on the client (like ordering colums of a table, tabs/menu management and so on...) and minimize server requests. Do you have seen something of similar in java or squeak? I have some free time and I will be happy to develop some ideas on Squeak and then port it to java. Ciao ciao!

Seaside load support

Hi all, I'm using seaside for a small & simple intranet application with goods as repository. Rigth now I'm evaluating to make a project of a web based application that could have a much more heavy load (not known yet). As I experienced several hangs on the squeak running the previous seaside version, I'm wondering if that could limit this project (I'm porting it to the new version on a new squeak image). How do you see the stability of a systema running a squeak on a linux with seaside and a goods server? How many can be loaded that site? concurrent users? How big, performant, professional is the best seaside application you know? Can you send some links to take a look to? updating children components

Hi, Seaside components have a #children method whose result must not vary in a single rendering pass, but it might be called several times. Is there a way to know when the rendering pass starts and ends ? In fact we have trees of domain objects that can be seen by several users at the same time, and we want to manage udpating using an observer pattern, as the tree's shape can change (and therefore the component tree too). So we want the children to change only after each rendering pass. Thanks in advance, Romain Robbes On a sidenote, maybe the children method could be called once per rendering pass ?

VW port

Hello Avi, This does not port to VW (the period at the end of the method prototype is not allowed by the VW compiler) : WAPrettyPrintedDocument>>initializeWithRenderer: aRenderer. html := aRenderer. indentCloseTags := OrderedCollection with: false. indentLevel := 0. A Squeak feature or a bug ? Michel.

no-post submit button

I'd like to have a submit button in a form that would not trigger any callbacks for the form inputs. It is for cancel action - much easier just to throw all the data away than to save them and then try to rollback a transaction or something. FWIW, SqueakSource is written in Seaside. Hello Avi, This one is funny and it took me a while to spot it (the return caret immediately following the method template) : WATestStyles class>>myStyle^ '.styletest-blue {background-color: blue}' It compiles OK under VW, but crashes Store.... Michel.
