[ANN] ShoreComponents 3 - back on Seaside

Hi all, till now ShoreComponents used some special technological properties that helped to solve some general problems of Seaside applications. Unfortunatelly this properties cased that it was not easy to use ShoreComponents with standard Seaside applications. It was possible to use Seaside components in applications based on ShoreComponents but it was almost impossible to use components from ShoreComponents package as supplement of other components. So it was not possible to use it for cooperation with Magritte etc. The third major version of ShoreComponents makes big step in this area and I hope that it will be better and better. Main properies of the next release: - there's no base component class. Components are now based on standard WAComponent - components doesn't require parent reference. They can be created with classical "new" constructor - dynamic variables are used for navigation in hierarchy of components (for specification of target component etc.) - static files are now provided by standard FileLibrary This is the first alpha version so it's far from perfect. The main problem are some form processing issues so some components are not working well. Also nested forms problem is not solved now. Only platform independent part of ShoreComponents is converted now. small seaside image

A while ago I mentioned on this list a stripped 3.7-based Seaside image that was around 7.5MB. A couple of people have emailed me offlist asking for it, and I've finally gotten around to actually putting one up somewhere. Hi all, OSCON is O'Reilly's annual Open Source Conference in Portland, Oregon. I did a Seaside talk there last year, which was great fun, and this year you'll note that Seaside is explicitly mentioned in the Call for Participation. Hi! I wonder why a method like #urlForAction: is not in WARenderCanvas... and is located en WAHtmlRenderer? How do I retrieve a valid link in seaside (I need a "onClick: ' window.open.location = "some link"'? Thanks in advance, Esteban pd: I know, my english sucks... Framework to basic management application.

Hello All, i work with VW7.4 Cincom Smalltalk. I'm interested to write basic application for management a small office. I need to management clients and articols and............ shipment document and .......... I have start to write it with seaside framework and all work fine. Now my question is about to found a framework to management a basic operation ( add / update / delete / query ......print .) of item and the realtive data ( for example articol data ). Is the Magritte framework a good solution for do it? I'have load MagritteForVisualWorks from Cincom store. The tutorial personeditor page is load in the browser but any change to it don't work fine. (see my question : "Load Magritte for VisualWorks and Magritte - Tutorial" ). Is there other solution do write management application based on Smalltalk and www ? Someone work around it ? #call: #answer / sessions

I have a couple of basic questions 1) Is it OK to #call components that never #answer ? For instance if you have a page with a menu that #calls components for each of its menu items, and the user may do this again before the component #answer. I believe this is the case, for instance, on the Sushi Store, where a user can be adding sushi to the cart and click on the Browse link on the menu bar, which will #call the browsing component again, before answering. The question is: Will this generate a memory leak ? Will all those compoenents add up ? Or is this the proper way to do it? I'm asking because I am developing my first real basic, but comertial application in Seaside, and I have not cached up with it real well yet. I have a very simple page, with a header, a navigation bar and a main area, very similar to the Sushi Store. But I have a WAComponent for each of those (header, navbar, etc.), placed an the page using divs. The component of the navication bar, simply shows some options that when clicked, #call the proper component to be displayed on the main area. What I have to do for the component to be displayed on the main area is calling the #call method from the previous component that is on the main area, otherwise this newly selected component will be displayed on the navigation bar DIV. Is this the proper way to build a basic web app that displays a specific component for whatever is clicked on the navigation bar? 2) When you develop a login process, like the one in Ramon's blog. Where is it proper to store the user that is logged on? Is this supposed to be stored somewhere in the WASession?

CSS URLs

Hello all, Thank you everyone that has worked on seaside. Seaside is really a wonderful environment! I'm still getting my feet wet. I have a question. I would like to generate tabs that look like the attached html file. To do this I would need to be able to support a URL in css. I've got this working "IF" I translate the url to a seaside url. I see the generateUrlForDocument but the image tag needs context to generate the url. I figured I would parse and replace the urls in WAPresenter>>updateRoot: anHtmlRoot self script ifNotNilDo: [:script | anHtmlRoot addScript: script]. self style halt ifNotNilDo: [:style | anHtmlRoot addStyle: style]. This makes sense to me since it appears that the css is added for each change in session and the images hold their seaside url throughout a session. I also figured this was possible since I have the context in WAPresenter. When I tried to create an image WARoundedTabStyle image: #bg on: (WARenderCanvas context: self context callbacks: #()) (the image: imageName on: html method just does: ^html image fileName: imageName, '.gif'; mimeType: 'image/gif'; document: (self base64Decode: (self perform: imageName)) ) Creating a new canvas seems to have wiped things clean. Is there an easier way to generate and set the url of an image so that I can parse the CSS and replace url(some.gif) with the seaside url for that gif? Thanks for your help! Ron Teitelbaum

Feature or bug related to Canvas API's implementation of textInput (async edition)?

I just happened to notice this when I had a breakpoint set inside a liveCallback block such as below : (html textInput) size: 5; value: ''; liveCallback: [ :value :r | dosomething_here ] I find that a breakpoint fires every time a character is typed into the field.. I'm guessing (but haven't checked) that the javascript as part of SeasideAsync is hooked into the javascript "onchange" event instead of a focus change.. Anyway, just thought I'd check to see if this would still work if plugged into the focus change event instead without pestering Seaside for each character. Anyway, just thought I'd check..

updating the contents of a div as a side effect of a liveCallback..

It seems to be that you're not able to do this directly care of a message I saw from Michel a while back, but I can't find it now.. and it also seems to be I saw code that did something like this, but I'm having a brain fart and can't seem to locate anything relevant.. Anyway, I've got div mixed in with other stuff on a page and when a button is pressed I get a liveCallback block running.. I was hoping that I could update the contents of the div at that point but Seaside is complaining (likely because it's not allowed).. So, if this is not allowed in that manner, I'm sure someone else has written code that does the same sort of stuff -- how did you achieve it? Or perhaps my code is just naughty.. As usual-- many thanks in advance!
