Can someone who has Smallblog working

send me a shot/copy/description of their config page? I still can't get it running. When accessing /blog I get choose a blog: with nothing else. Accessing /blog/blogAdmin results in a walkback as the session is nil.

I must be missing something - depending on what you mean exactly by the above - I see many examples that want both sessions and non-sessions. Take something like smallblog as an example. It has two fairly different uses: displaying blogs for people to read, editing blogs for people who want to post. The two uses are basically in complementary distribution wrt sessions. The first use gains nothing from sessions and wants "the advantages of sessionless apps (like bookmarking and static indexing ...)". The second use on the other hand is wonderfully helped by the session mechanisms and doesn't care about bookmarking / indexing / etc. So at first sight, here we have a case that is not "an all-or-nothing choice per application", but rather "I want both, in different parts of the code". Clearly, there is nothing particular to smallblog here. Anything that both displays and edits a data structre / database is an example of that, if it doesn't need to track the viewing. And that - at least in my world - is a very frequent pattern. I have tried solutions on both extremes in past projects: from the standard "everything is a session" - by far easier to code given the current framework - to the other extreme of "only editing is a session and everytime an object is edited it is rendered to static html served by apache" (unpleasant to code, more complicated underlyingly, but a more pleasant user experience). But they are both somewhat frustrating. Whenever I'll find some time, I'm inclined to experiment with a kind of WAApplication that dispatches both to session objects and to objects that just render themselves (and have static, indexable urls, etc). I haven't had time to think that through and hack on it yet, but I'd be very interested in hearing how others see that division of labor. Michal

Great, I get a chance to be the customer :-) Here is what i think should be supported, based on what I have seen done on other sites, and on what I want to do with my own. I am happy and willing to try to implement some of this, once I am guided where best to place it. * It should be possible to group all the validation errors from all the offending fields in one place in the page - at the top say. * Altervatively, if should be possible to place the validation errors beside the offending form fields * It should be possible to highlight the offending fields in red, lets say. * The validation errors should be shown as content of the page, not as javascript alert popups. * I can't decide between onblur() and on submit (typical customer :-)). One of the best web UIs I ever saw had a fat status bar on the page, coloured in red, informing the user what he had to do to the form to make the status bar green, indicating the form was submittable. Initially the red status bar says "Enter a username", when you enter one and tab to the next field, it says "enter date of purchase", when you tab out of that, and the date is invalid, the red status bar says "invalid date". Etc etc. Eventually the bar turns green, and the submit button on the form is enabled and bobs your uncle as they say. Is that all too ambitious for now? I do think seaside should support this kind of interface eventually, but I have no idea how to road map it. But just to get started on something for my current web app, I would be happy with something like: html textInputWithValue: [] callback: [] constraints: #(date mandatory) which would do client side validation when the submit button is pressed, and shows all error messages in one span or div some place on the page. When accessing a URL such as http://localhost/seasideappname instead of http://localhost/seaside/appname, it still works instead of showing an error. Doesn't seems to be fixed in the latest version. [ANN] EOGLORP package registered on SqueakSource.

I've updated my addition to GLORP that allows it to use EOModel files for the DescriptorSystem and there is a java program at http://homepage.mac.com/tblanchard called ORMapping that can be used to create EOModels visually. It only works with PostgreSQL. Or you can always download an eval copy of WebObjects from Apple and use the EOModeler app. Anyhow, it seems to be working well for me. Enjoy. -Todd Blanchard

[VW] Lost halo icons and missing styles

I just stumbled over a small problem: it seems that sometimes, the icons from the "halo"-view are not displayed and the styles set are not used either. When cutnpasting the URLs for the icons, I immediately get a "This session has expired, you are being redirected to...", which explains, why the browser can't display them. As to why the styles are gone, no idea, it just looks as if the two are related (ie. when icons work, the styles do too; when they don't, styles don't either). Is this known or what can I do to narrow this down? mjl

Yes, it does ring a bell and I had the same symptom many times ... ... during demos :-( I am attaching a fix that may help. Let me know if the symptom disappears with that fix. As you said, the problem seems to be intermittent and is very difficult to produce at will. So far, I was not able to find the actual cause and therefore I can not prove that the attached fix is THE solution to the symptom. Your feedback will be most useful. Indenting elements in select list

Hello, I have a really odd question. ;) I would like to fill a select list with elements, and some elements should be indented. E.g.: element1 element2 element3 I can't prepend a white space to the strings, because this won't be displayed in the select list, instead I have to put some  's before the strings. But Seaside will transform   to &nbsp, which is then displayed in the select list as &nsbp;element2. What I have tried next is the following: (WAHtmlBuilder encode: '&nbsp'), aString for a string that shall be indented in the select list. But here I get the same problem as when I manually add ' ': ' ', aString I have now changed the HtmlCharacters to not transform the ampersand anymore, but this solution is bad, so I'm wondering what is the correct solution for this problem? I'm aware that there is WAHtmlBuilder>>html: aString, but that doesn't help in this case. Kind regards, David
