Images in a CSS style library

Hello, I would like to know if it's possible to store images in a style library (subclass of WAStyleLibrary)? I know how to store images in the Squeak image, but is it also possible to refer to this image from within a CSS definition? So far we have something like this in the CSS style: ... background: url(http://foobar.com/images/header-logo.png) no-repeat; ... So the images are stored on a remote server from which they are loaded into the website. Now we would like to have this header-logo.png directly in the Squeak image, so we need a way to specify in the CSS definition the place where this picture is stored in the image. We would like to have a method in our style library where the data of the image is stored as a byte array, but how can we do the link to the CSS definition? Is this possible? Or is there any other way to store pictures in the Squeak image and to refer to them via CSS? Kind regards, David

hanging morphic seems to be gone in 3.8

An old friend of mine, the gremlin that causes Morphic to hang after a server-side image has been running for a while, seems to have packed its suitcase and left for friendlier places somewhere between 3.7 and latest 3.8 - a couple of freshly created images have been running for 24 hours now without a hitch, which is longer than I experienced so far. Nothing conclusive, just wanted to mention this as more people appeared to have this problem...

REST and Seaside

As many of you know, I've been running Bountiful Baby on Seaside for over a year now. Well, the site has increased in popularity to the point where the traffic appears to be a serious problem for Seaside. I have regularly been seeing memory footprints of the Seaside image up around a gigabyte. The latest image save was over half a gig. And occasionally I see image freezes over extended periods of time (half a minute or so), and it is probably related to a huge image footprint. During periods of inactivity, the image will (eventually) shrink to as little as about 50 megs, so I think Seaside is doing it's thing OK. One way to test this is to grab the image and bring it over to a test system, where there is little to no activity. It's just that on the production system, I occasionally I get bombarded with web requests, and so the image grows to handle it. Because of this, I've been seriously re-thinking the viability of Seaside for Bountiful Baby. It is absolutely great technology, but alas, Seaside is memory hungry. It's not a problem for a small site, but as the site grows in popularity, it becomes more and more of a problem. So, I guess I'm looking for input from you guys. If I replaced Seaside with something else, I'd probably just use standard web REST-style technology, with all of its warts and all. I'm not sure what else is possible if you are trying to support a lot of traffic. What would you do? Looking for advice from anybody who cares to give it. I'd also like to stay with Squeak-- so what frameworks would you suggest? Thanks all! Nevin

No. :) Don't look stuff up by keys except when the keys are user input (like 'FL' above, and even there, ideally they picked it from a list which in Seaside means you should have a direct reference to the object anyway). The equivalent of a foreign key column is simply a pointer reference (in an instance variable). If you need to go in the other (to-many) direction, store a collection. You'll sometimes only need one or the other, and sometimes need both - in which case you have to be careful to maintain the invariants: State>>addCity: aCity aCity setState: self. ^ cities add: aCity Generally, I recommend making the collection side of this the public interface, and the backlink private (#setState: vs. #state:) and never sent directly. Or the other way around, but be consistent about which you use. Unless there's legacy data to deal with, or the client specifically requests it, I would much rather use some form of object database and something like XML-RPC for interop. So, yes, I would consider GOODS. The main reason at this point I would opt not to use GOODS for a particular project would be performance concerns - having to do everything over the network, combined with a lack of server-side querying, can be a real problem for some applications. Local-disk solutions like OmniBase have a real advantage here. I do think, however, that it would be possible to do some aggressive caching in GOODS to improve the situation - I just haven't had time to work on that yet. As for "ad-hoc" queries: you'll have to be more specific. The only way that relational databases offer ad-hoc querying is if the user types in SQL themselves. Is that what you would do? Otherwise, you're providing a structured UI for the user to enter their query, and so you know ahead of time what kinds of queries might be used and can structure your object model and your indices accordingly. Sorry for the delay...I have the demo in my house :) After I review the demo, The graphing stuff is very simple, so is not justify to send all the demo because it has connection with GOODS and have images, etc So, what I do is to create a new class under Seaside-Examples-Test category call WAGraphing. You have to install PlotMorph before file in the change set, and then you have to add the app in the config page pointing to WAGraphing. Then just point your browser to /seaside/graphing. OmniBase status

Hi all, I red the list for a while and feel like OmniBase is the best OODB solution at the moment. Many people said OmniBase was poted to Squeak. So I tried to get it installed into 3.7 image. SqueakMap says: error occured retrieving http://tai42.xs4all.nl/cg/OmniBase.st: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found I have found http://www.gorisek.com/WikiDoc/files-wiki/OmniBaseSqueak.zip from the author. It does not have tests at all. But seems to be created 5 March 2005, i.e. quite fresh thing. It is named OmniBaseSqueakTrial. What does it mean? I have found Monticello version from Cees de Groot http://tai42.xs4all.nl/~cg/mc/omnibase/OmniBase-CdG.8.mcv Name: OmniBase-CdG.8 Author: CdG Time: 17 August 2003, 9:36:18 pm UUID: ddce5186-98c0-427f-ac70-117fef5f284b Which looks like an old version for me.
