Best way to keep a site look consistent

Hi list, I guess this is a pretty basic question, but I just want to get it right. I would like to have a site with a consistent frame around the content (e.g. like the Hasso-Platter seaside tutorial site). So far the way I found to do this is: 1. Define a decoration (e.g. WAMyCustomDecoration) which does something like: renderContentOn: html html divNamed: 'outer-container' with: [html divNamed: 'inner-container' with: [self renderOwnerOn: html]]. 2. Define an abstract class for the site (e.g. WATemplateForMySite) that performs: initialize super initialize. self addDecoration: WAMyCustomDecoration new. 3. Make all the classes of my site subclass from WATemplateForMySite. What I don't like very much are steps 2 and 3. Is there a better way to do this? Maybe configuring something in the #updateRoot: message, so that I'm not forced to subclass from WATemplateForMySite? Thanks in advance, Andrés

Trying to extend jquery -- a question

I would like to try and add "draggable" (for starters; then some others) to the jquery/squeak project, and would appreciate a pointer on where to start. How to create a new session

Hi all, I am stuck with the following problem: I am working on a registration component which does: 1. get all info from the user 2. set the timeout of the session to 24 hours 3. call a component which sends >self answer< as a link in an email message. This means that the session waits until the link in the email is clicked. 4. on return the timeout is reset and the new user is registered and logged in. So far this basically works, but in step 3 I want to continue with a new session while the registration session waits for the answer. I tried to fork the call, but this disturbs the whole seaside mechanism. Then I tried >self session start:< and >self session redirect:<, but no new session is created. I didnt see any obvious way to create a new session - does anybody know? Or is there another way to handle this kind of situation? Cheers, Christian

Hi All, i work with seaside on VW7.6. I rendering some div tag on my web page. My question is: i can dynamic change the dimension of the div tag from the web browser with use of the mouse ? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated! Regards, Dario

Hey list, I am currently attending the Google I/O. And as soon as I see presentations about the Google App Engine und the GWT, I wonder if Seaside does provide all those functionalities since quite a lot of time? Looking at the App Engine: compare that with seasidehosting.st What are you doing? You write your code, save your image and upload it to seasidehosting.st ... and voila, there is your webapplication online. What does the App Engine provide: Write you code in Python (boooh), upload it to the google cloud and there you go as well! Sure, there is a slight difference, because Google currently provides more then seasidehosting does, but in general there seem to be quite the same idea. So let's switch to the Google Web Toolkit. What does it do? It provides the functionality to write your code in Java, you use GWT and it gets fransformed into a cross-browser-platform supported code. So we do write our code in Smalltalk, use Seaside capabilities and as well have our AJAX / HTML / JavaScript code available without ever touching it. Seriously, think about it. If we could do some more promotion for Seaside, and investigate a little more time on a cool portal (like seasidehosting) we could definitely raise to an opponent of Google. I know, this sounds visionary, but it is reachable... By the way I try to tell everyone I talk to about the powerful Webframework Seaside and it's implementation in Smalltalk! That's enough for most like web applications with a CRUD persistence. And copying source files around is what most people are used to today ;) On the other hand there are nice API's and services (database, mail, URL fetching, ...) and as Phillipe said - it scales without additional installations. You may have seen the 'runtime' property in the app.yaml config file. Google is planning to support other languages and runtimes in the future but I think they are currently looking for technologies like RoR, PHP, JavaScript or Java with similar development style. Google has no history in using Smalltalk and as you can read in [1] one of the fences at Google is the choice of programming language... Hi, Configuring Apache is a real pain job and not so much documented. However I run with the same configuration as you do VW's TinyHttp and Apache 2.061 on a low cost VPN offering sharing many things through Apache. It might not be perfect but here you go for my httpd.conf. Don't forget to write ALL the file libraries to your public directory respecting the file structure. Supersleight - transparent png support for ie6

Hello All, The supersleight library provides transparent png support for ie6. The following images show a port of the old Pier style to Blueprint, with NiftyCorners, this allows the colour to be varied programmatically. Possible to use gemstone/s for public internet app?

I've read a bit about how dabbleDb and others manage images to support large numbers of users who have independent sets of persisted objects. I understand (somewhat) that the free version of Gemstone is limited on total object count/size, and on usage with multiple CPUs. Is there any similar way to use Gemstone free edition for a large number of users (internet app) if those users' object sets are totally independent of each other? Using multiple servers? Does the free license allow such usage? Thanks - Sophie
