proper way to save image while serving?

hi - When using the (squeak) image as a database, what is the proper way to save that image on a periodic basis? Doing it the naive way (#snapshot: true andQuit: false, called from a #stepAt: method) leads to my image locking up or crashing on a regular basis (at least I think that this is the cause of the crashes/lockups). I thought I saw code which rather saves a new version of the whole image each time, but I can't find it now. Would that solve the issue? thanks, Michal

Examples of Google Maps in Seaside

As a follow-up to our recent workshop at Santa Fe, I've put a Monticello package up at http://seaside.gemstone.com/ss/ GoogleMaps.html. This is based very closely on http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/examples/ in that it has hard-coded JavaScript. No effort yet in making a true OO library that provides Smalltalk objects to manage the underlying maps. Mostly, this is a research effort to discover what capabilities are being exposed by the examples and put them in Smalltalk classes. PlotKit alternative

Hi there, i wanted to use PlotKit to draw some line graphs but figured it's completely useless for this task. You can't assign different colors for each line, which makes the whole graph thing a bit pointless. Does anyone know an alternative that can be used with seaside? Some very basic questions about replacing my webstack

We currently develop web applications using IBM's Domino server. I want to move us over to Smalltalk and Seaside, but I am having some problems understanding which bits we need to assemble in order to make the application stack (the problem with using Domino is that everything is included in one box, so that tends to insulate developers from needing other tools, and hence learning about them). I would really appreciate it if someone could explain the 'mainstream' way of achieving our basic requirements. Although we like Squeak, we are equally happy to go with VW and/or Gemstone if they are better/more reliable/easier ways to get what we need (and I realise that those criteria may well be in the eye of the beholder) The key facilities we need are: 1. SSL connections (I now understand that this is handled by Apache) 2. User registration and authentication. LDAP would seem to be a good approach - particularly for single sign-on - but does Seaside talk with LDAP (it would be useful to get autheticated usernames in the apps) 3. SMTP (in and out). We would like to be able to generate emails and receive them into the applications - where appropriate 4. Some sort of database. We don't do very large scale data crunching, but we do need to be able to reliably store and retrieve subsets of objects. Just to be clear, I don't want to burden anyone by asking for detailed descriptions, I just want to know - in broad terms - what we would need in order to replace the domino back end and allow us to develop apps in Smalltalk. Cappuccino is nice. I've played a bit with it. Lots of potential, but it is not yet there. Stability is not yet great, and there are lots of unimplemented features. Debugging in a null-eating environment is not as nice as in Smalltalk, and having an extra layer of javascript doesn't help. Stephan

Maybe it's interface builder or Xcode for Cappuccino framework? Do web browsers send (post) values of disabled fields to the server?

Using Seaside-Glorp (VW)...

Hi all.. I'm trying to switch over to using the Seaside-Glorp package from the Cincom respository (on VW) and have my Seaside application doing the following : 1) Added GlorpConfiguration as part of the ancestry 2) Added WAResourcefulSession as the superclass for my existing session class 3) Edited the database settings via the Seaside config page for my app Now, perhaps I'm trying to access the database incorrectly but couldn't find any good examples lying around : self databaseSession readManyOf: myTable However, I get an exception down in the PostgresEXDI code when trying to access the 'system' which is not set for some reason.. Any ideas on what I'm missing?
