JQGrid initial release

Dear JQuery fans, I've just uploaded the first integration of jqGrid (docu: http://www.trirand.com/jqgridwiki/doku.php demo: http://trirand.com/blog/jqgrid/jqgrid.html) in http://www.squeaksource.com/JQueryWidgetBox. Tested in Pharo-1.0-10508-rc2. Also updated the metacello repository configuration. However, there were some Javascript-Core / Javascript-Pharo-Core fixes needed to make my plugin work. Default the ConfigurationOfJQueryWidgetBox loads for both the baseline and the versions the '3.0.0-alpha5.5-baseline'; version of Seaside 3.0. In that, these changes are not yet included; and also not in the latests 3.0.0-alpha5.8 alpha version. Question: What is the procedure to create a new version of Seaside30 that includes these new javascript core packages? For now, to make the plugin work: just load the latest baseline packages of Seaside using: ((Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfSeaside30) project version: '3.0.0-alpha5.7-baseline') load. Integration work so far - Viewing, formatting and sorting data using Json callback on server - Toolbar search with automatic conversion of filtercriteria The jqgrid plugin is huge, so still a lot more integration work to do. I'm working my way through portions of the seaside pdf ( really makes it so much more approachable for me). I suffered through one of my cognitive dissonance moments while working with this project. Most of it lingering ideas of what is expensive to do in java, vs the way to do it in smalltalk. Here's my current problem. I've got an object which has a Margritte set of descriptions and I can call asComponent and get an editor. I currently am wrapping that editor with a form and buttons by using WAComponent>>addValidatedForm however, what I really want to do is add a third button to that form. I want new, save, cancel. I thought I saw a way to do this, but for the life of me now, i can't find it. Any sugesstions? Tony Giaccone

How to serialize jQuery UI Selectable?

Dear List Here's a (quick?) question: In the Seaside jQuery functional tests > 'Form and Form Elements' > 'Multi-Select-List', the values selected in the list are serialized and displayed immediately to the right of the form. How can the jQuery UI Selectable be modified to behave in the same way? The jQuery website has it working nicely: http://jqueryui.com/demos/selectable/serialize.html but I can't figure out how to do this in Seaside! Thanks! Amir

I have Model objects I want users to edit using Magritte. For one of the MAStringDescriptions I want it asFollows: the user can select a predefined value from a list or type an own String into a textinput. Whenever the textinput contains text, I want to use that, the value of the list otherwise. I created an own component class with the following methods: renderInputOn: html html select id: self labelId , 'predefinedOptions'; addAll: self predefinedOptions; callback: [:v | self take: v ]; selected: ((self predefinedOptions includes: self string) ifTrue: [self string] ifFalse: [nil]). html textInput callback: [:v | self take: v ]; id: self labelId; value: ((self predefinedOptions includes: self string) ifTrue: [''] ifFalse: [self string]). take: anObject anObject isEmpty ifFalse: [self string: anObject ] predefinedOptions ^ self description propertyAt: #predefinedOptions ifAbsent:[Array new.] That works, but is very unelegant, since it relies of the order of inputs, for example. Anyone a better Idea how to update using two callbacks at once? ^^ RD

can't add component page in magritte/pier on Seaside-3.0

I cannot set the seaside component class in a new Pier page. I tried this on: (1) the image I built, (2) build #44 from hudson.lukas-renggli.ch, (3) Seaside 3.0a5 from www.seaside.st The attempt yields a validation error: Component Class: Invalid input given There is no implementor of #dispatchCallback (called by MASelectListComponent>>renderEditorForGroupedOn:) in images (1) and (2), and image (3) has a different implementation (but still can't set the component correctly). Further digging gets me to the reason for the validation error. The default WAComponent is not in the list returned by: PRComponent class>>componentClasses I can get past the validation error if I add WAComponent to the list, but then it still does not set the component for the page. I'll give up at this point, and use code to insert the component page. -- Yanni

Hi, I am trying to include the getSelection() javascript functionality in Seaside. As a reference I am considering this website: http://www.codetoad.com/javascript_get_selected_text.asp In the reference webpage, the text selected by the user is inserted in the text area, while I would like to pass the selection back to Seaside. I am trying to use SUEvaluator >> callback: value: to do it. The idea was to put the evaluation of the javascript command in the value part and pass its result to the callback. However, I am not sure whether this is the right way to go.. Could you give me some suggestion on how to implement this? Thanks and cheers Marco

New Smalltalk-Research group

Hi folks. We were discussing about this in the Pharo mailing list but the idea is for all Smalltalkers. I am not sure if this will work, but it is worth to try it as I don't have anything to loose. We were thinking to have a place, an environment and hopefully a community, where we can freely discuss about Smalltalk papers or OO in general. All smalltalkers of all flavors can join, discuss, tell their experiences and thoughts, share and learn. The main purpose about that list is: - be able to FREELY discuss about papers about Smalltalk or OO in general. I say freely because maybe someone gives an opinion of a paper that the person who wrote it is also in this place. We are all professional and I think we can discuss with respect. - LEARN. Other uses: - Don't reinvent the wheel. Maybe I wanted to do something and I read that XXX person did YYY. So, I can look at it. - Be aware of what other people is doing, working, writing and learning. - Have different opinions of a certain topic / paper. - A little step to join all the Smalltalk community in one place. We can meet people, join forces, etc. - Help in the preparation, ANN, collaborate, etc in Workshops, conferences, and so on. - Ask for help on review. Several times someone has several papers to review for a certain conference. This can be a place to ask for that help. - Publish papers that were rejected from someone. How many times some papers where rejected but do you still read it and find it useful ? - Educate people and being educated. - Share latex template, commands, or tricks related to smalltalk code for example. - Discuss about research in general. - Ask for a certain topic. Suppose I want to start to work in XXX topic, I can ask to see if someone knows related papers or work. - others In two words: DISCUSS AND LEARN. FAQ: 1) Which is the address? http://groups.google.com/group/smalltalk-research 2) Do I need to be "Researcher" to join ? Not necessary. You may just be interested. 3) Is there a Nabble interface? Yes: http://n4.nabble.com/Smalltalk-Research-f1473466.html Now, please what I would appreciate is if you can help me to you distribute (I am not in Gemstone, Cincom or GNU for example) this ANN. It would be cool to create a community. I know there are a lot of Smalltalk researchers that doesn't have time to follow the active smalltalks lists.
