Help with dependent components.

I have implemented the following use case using Javascript and ASP.net: 1. One listbox A 2. A textbox - displays a computation dependant on listbox A's selection 3. A listbox B - provides selections dependent on the selection of listbox A. The contents of listbox B are provided via AJAX. 4. The action seems immediate at the browsers. The solution entails setting up a publish/subscribe pattern - the textbox and listbox B suscribe from a publisher that watches for changes on listbox A. I have looked at Announcements, and envision a possible solution using Announcements. However, a server trip seems to be inevitable with the callbacks (apart from the listbox B AJAX contents); also, if more than one callback is involved, they are sequentially executed at the server. The requirement suggests that this should operate at the client without server trip. However the callbacks execute sequentially, while the closure in the dropdown obtains previous values, an do not see the new value set by the callback of the radioButton. I would like suggestions on how to approach this common use case. There are many such cases while implementing a complex 1003 form. Thanks

Dear Allen: I have just followed the steps in the book. Having the class Contact, using its "database", an OrderedCollection. If I do just what it is written, it is OK, works fine, and reference to each contact is OK. Problem starts if I change the editContact: method, original is: editContact: aContact editor contact: aContact But this does not work properly with the "cancel" button.., so I tried: |copy| copy := aContact copy. editor contact: copy. editor onAnswer: [ :answer | (answer) ifTrue: [ Contact removeContact: aContact; addContact: copy ] ] And the problem is that I do not get this new "copy", work properly.., I just wanted to learn how to solve the problem regarding the "cancel" button. Sending e-mails

Hi all, I'd like to know what's the best way to send e-mails from a seaside app, so far I've read about some Smalltalk SMTP library, using unix sendmail or sendEmail. sendEmail sounds like the easiest method, but I don't like depending on external tools... Any suggestions, tips? Any howtos around? Thanks! Bernat Romagosa.

[ANN] New seaBreeze 4.5 (on Seaside 3.0)

Hi Everybody, we just prepared a new version of seaBreeze for you, its version is 4.5 now, and we put in some effort to enhance the user experience and ease of use. First of all, we changed the foundation, that is, seaBreeze is now running on VisualWorks 7.7 and Seaside 3.0alpha5, which is the latest Seaside version for VisualWorks right now. Seaside 3.0 refactored and re-architected many areas, so numerous fixes and adaptations had to be done because of that, we don't go into details. But we want to point you to the main areas of innovation in seaBreeze version 4.5. Seaside 3.0 introduced support for 'jQuery', another JavaScript library, which enabled the use of 'jsTree', a plug-In to jQuery to display tree views. Using jsTree, we renovated the seaBreeze tree element, which leads to a new look&feel in the element tree of the seaBreeze editor. Re-arranging elements in the element tree is now _much_ easier, and support for multi-selection is integrated into the tree widget using the platform multi-select keyboard support. seaBreeze now supports ValueModels for almost all aspects. This way, for instance, an aspect of an InputField can be a ValueHolder, which updates the InputField on the web page when its value was changed using the #value: method. Application code changing the value of a ValueModel will now immediately update the web page without further programming. This concept is known to all VisualWorks programmers for a long time, ValueModels are the base of the GUI framework of VisualWorks for almost 20 years. Along with improvements of the Ajax support, the display handling of seaBreeze web pages using Ajax is now much less flickery than before. FileLibraries in seaBreeze now support arbitrary file names, the 'real' names are stored in a pragma of the method storing the file content; the method name is no longer used to identify the stored file. This was introduced to eliminate possible name conflicts caused by the automatic filename to selector conversion used in previous versions. Furthermore FileLibraries in zip format are supported in seaBreeze, which is very convenient for embedding of some external libraries (such as tinyMCE). The rich text editor of seaBreeze, which is the tinyMCE editor, is better integrated than ever. You are now able to configure the editor used on your web page with respect to the editor tools you want to provide to your user, like the table-tool, or the bold-italic-underline buttons. The seaBreeze tab- and menu-elements are easier to configure. Some of the layout parameters are configurable in the respective element editors, so extensive editing of CSS attributes is no longer needed for those widgets to get a decent style. We improved support for web application dialog handling by introducing class SBAjaxDialog. Look at the list of class methods there, almost all dialogs you know as a VisualWorks programmer from the GUI framework class Core.Dialog are available now. All dialogs opened using class SBAjaxDialog will be shown in a lightbox above your running web application. Handling of CSS files has been changed when seaBreeze detects errors. The files will be sent to the browser unchanged now to enable the use of expressions which are not valid css but nonetheless could be interpreted by (some) browsers (such as activeX filters for the IE) Last but not least, we are happy to announce that the latest Opera browser is one of the browsers to provide 'seaBreeze editor support', as do Firefox, Chrome and Safari. As with previous seaBreeze versions, application written in seaBreeze are compatible with other browsers as well, only the editing support my be limited. expire path for application

I'm about to chase down an annyoing artifact. I have quite a usual deployment where the server path in the application configuration ist set to / and seaside is deployed behind an apache. Well, I'm using seaside 2.8 if this is important to know. The problem is that whenever a session expires the redirect url contains the base path of the application. I mean the application is registered at /seaside/myapp When the redirect occurs I get the url http://myhost/seaside/myapp/additional/path instead of http://myhost/additional/path I think I found the cause. In WAApplication>>handleExpiredRequest: there is url := self baseUrl path: OrderedCollection new. url addToPath: (self expiryPathFor: aRequest). baseUrl calls basePath and that checks the existance of a set serverPath. The second call to expiryPath does not. So I get a path / from the call to baseUrl but then the /seaside/myapp is copied onto while addToPath: with the full path is executed. I think a WARegistry>>expiryPathFor: aRequest self serverPath isNil ifFalse: [ ^ aRequest url copyFrom: (self basePath size + 1) to: aRequest url size]. ^ aRequest url will help. On the other hand it could be that I'm doing something wrong. If not a lot of people should discovered this already :) I'm trying to find the right place where to fix the issue. Thanks for the answer. I forgot writing it was Seaside 3, using pharo one click image, 3.0a5. Probably the problem with radio buttons is what you said. And regarding the other problem, I could do the solution using a Dictionary to save the contacts instead of a Ordered Collection..., but I suppose there is a better solution... Best regards..

Newbie question Seaside book.

I am very newbie at Smalltalk and Seaside..., and I tried implementing the Note in section 12.2, to make the cancel button behave properly.. ...., but I was not able.. Can the example be completed?? I tried among many other things.. iAddress>>editContact: aContact |copy| copy := aContact copy. editor contact: copy. editor onAnswer: [ :answer | (answer) ifTrue: [ Contact removeContact: aContact; addContact: copy ] ] But it only worked properly for the first element. Because once I save first, I loose the reference to the ordered collection of contacts... Sorry if this is a fool question, but many years in Java and just starting with smalltalk and seaside... Other question (also novice) is that I don't get my radio buttons to work..., following the book, I wrote: renderGenderOn: html | group | html text: 'Gender: '. group := html radioGroup. group radioButton selected: self contact isMale; callback: [ self contact beMale ]. html text: 'Male'. group radioButton selected: self contact isFemale; callback: [ self contact beFemale ]. html text: 'Female'. html break but it never runs "beMale" or "beFemale"..., however Dates, checkboxes or inputtexts work fine.... ¿any idea? [3.0] Set exception handler for application?

How would I go about setting a custom exception handler on my application? 2.8 = app preferenceAt: #errorHandler put: aClass 3.0 = ? Internet Explorer 8 does not support seaside lightbox-dialog

Hi All, Internet Explorer 8 does not support seaside lightbox-dialog. Does anyone know any solution for this. Actually I have used it in my webapplication and its not working in IE 8 not even the seaside examples of lightbox-dialog working in IE 8. Thanks
