Trying to upgrade from 2.7a1-mb.216 to 2.8

Hi, I have a nicely setup image that contains 2.7 Seaside as per the subject line. I've been trying to ugrade that image to 2.8 Seaside, but every attempt results in a CPU-loop and hung up Squeak. I tried to load 2.8.2.563 from the Universe Browser I tried to load 2.8a1-pnm.577 from Monticello (squeaksource repository). In both cases the Loading bar slides its way to the right, whilst lots of classes are recompiled. The the "Cleaning Up" completes Then "Reloading" appears and the progress bar gets about a third of the way across the Squeak is hung up in a CPU loop. I can't interrupt Squeak with Cmd-. I'm looking for suggestions as to how to upgrade? Thanks, Steve

version 3.1 of Seabreeze causes DNU for #passengerPrefix

I decided to try Seabreeze tonight but it didn't get far.. I'm not sure if I'm missing something needed by Seabreeze (it didn't complain when loaded from the public store). I also tried updating to the latest Seaside.. Below is what I get during the initial create phase after entering the site name,etc. Any ideas? dynamic entry points

Hello list, I've been scratching my head on this most of today and I'm still stuck, so I thought I would ask for help. I'm working on a web app to access the test results generated by our automated test system. The results are stored in folders named with the timestamp when the test completed. The folder includes various files, like the time spent on each test, the logs generated... The folder structure would look something like this: results 20081002145402 logs.tar.gz elapsedTimes.txt info.txt 20081002153408 logs.tar.gz elapsedTimes.txt info.txt Currently the system we have offers a central webpage, that displays all available result (in chronological order), and when you click on a link, it opens a popup with a seaside page displaying the results. The seaside page provides links to the logs and displays the various files in a nicely formatted way. What I would like to do is send each developer a permanent url (s)he can use to consult the results for that test run. the url woudl be something like this http://mydomain.com/seaside/results/20081002145402 and that would open directly the seaside view for that test run. So I started of by subclassing WADispatcher, to override #entryPointAt:. I was thinking I could intercept the string '20081002145402' and that way know which test run to return. I can register my dispatcher at /seaside/results and if I check WADispatcher default entryPoints it is there. However, when I try to access this url, I get an error /seaside/results/20081002145402 doesn't exist (I don't remember the exact Seaside wording). My idea was that the request would go like this: /seaside/results/20081002145402 seaside -> this goes to WADispatcher default results -> this goes to ResultsDispatcher default 20081002145402 -> ResultsDispatcher creates on the fly the page for that test run and returns that. I'm sure I'm missing something fairly basic to manage to get my dispatcher in the loop properly. Or I just misunderstood how this part works. Any help is appreciated. I'm currently using Seaside 2.6 in VisualWorks. I don't plan on upgrading in the next weeks, but should upgrade over the next few months up to 2.8 (via 2.7). Cheers, Yann

Hello! In the attached file, when I click on the "Get results", I want to show the radio buttons that the user has selected for each question. However, this doesn't work. What am I missing? Also, can you please comment on my style of coding? Thanks.

Space tally

Adrian, I ran the space tally, and have found, even after WARegistry clearAllHandlers. Smalltalk garbageCollect. that there are still some Seaside entrails present in the image. In particular, there are 11 instances of WAApplication, and 4 instances of WADispatcher. There are also quite a few surviving instances from the cryptography package, suggesting that I probably have some orphans from my experiments with SSL connections. I will dig around some more. It would be nice to get breakdowns by category, and I quickly ran into something that struck me as odd: is there a reason #spaceTally: answers the items and not the tally/receiver? Doing the latter would simplify slicing the results. If there is interest, I can punch it up a little and submit it for inclusion in Pharo - let me know. It won't be much, but it should be helpful in understanding what is eating up space. Thanks for calling the tally to my attention; it looks like a very useful tool. Either here or on the Pharo list (maybe both), there was some recent discussion of cleanup. IIRC, it mentioned some additional expressions to clean up Seaside; it's worth a try. I also vaguely recall some (perhaps just speculation??) mention of image growth problems with the older UI Enhancements; the image in question is months old, so that might be part of the problem. Finally, I have no baseline for how big the image should be; I just noted it was 50+MB and realized something was out of whack. I am not terribly concerned about the current image, orther than to not lose the code. I expect to build a new image once Pharo is available with PolyMorph and ideally TT integrated into the image. Depending on the timing and any deadlines that might be whooshing by, I might wait for the official release, but I am getting eager to have some of the newer refinements. Bill Wilhelm K. Hi Richard, have you tried out the "seaBreeze examples" in the public store? Maybe you could get an idea what to change to make your application work. Nevertheless we are interested to find out the reason for your seaBreeze problems, so please send us some more information... Seaside on VAST presentation

Joachim Tuchel did a Seaside Demo at VisualAge Smalltalk Forum 2008 in Frankfurt. Adrian, I will run the space analysis. I _think_ I even have a copy of the image in its very bloated state, for comparison. The image is an earlier Pharo image with a similarly aged Pinesoft's UI Enhancements (of course, essentially a old version of Polymorph). I have no idea how big the image should be but, even 28MB seems large. More to come. Thanks! Hi, Is there a way to generate and render a file based on a URL sent from a browser? My browser has a URL that it sends to the seaside image - http://localhost:1345/xml/dataFile.xml. However there is no such file called dataFile.xml. Instead I want seaside to generate the data and render it out to the client as an xml file. Is there a way I could do this? Thanks in advance. Comet, CTSession and CTHandler

Hi everyone, I've been playing around with the Comet implementation (and also porting into VW plus some changes) but I can't figured out why the CTSession has a collection of handlers, instead a simple instance variable with the current CTHandler.
