Autologout implementation

How would you implement automatic logout after a given period of inactivity? The app is running in a workshop, where a bunch of people use the same machine to access their scheduled tasks and other stuff. They will often leave "their" last page on the screen, so the goal donor requested an automated reload of the starting page. I did this for another app (in IOWA on Ruby) by meta-refreshing to the "/logout" page, which in turn expired the session and redirected to the starting page. Below is what I came up with in Seaside. This decoration is autmatically added to the pages if the users are in the autologout category. Has anybody a better idea for this? Thanks, s. Especially it is very cool to have this option: - you can put a VM for any OS environment together with the small image and the static files on a memory stick - you can start the application on any computer/OS you like and run the image/webserver - to use applications only a webbrowser is required (you can also develop with Squeak right from the flash drive) Since size of flash drives is growing you can have your whole development/project environment (local running Squeaksource, swiki, Squeak-dev images) on the stick and run it everywhere. [NEWBIES] How to set up a multi-page website

So, I have a website, and I would like it to have multiple pages, eg. an about page, a members page, etc. I think you know what I mean. I have currently accomplished this by creating a variable in my session class called *content *and the root component renders different content depending on what the content variable stores. This approach appears to have these advantages: - I can have a header and footer that remains constant no matter what page the user is on - It is very simple - not much else I do not entirely understand the idea of a root *task* but I have a feeling that that is the way I should go about completing this. Why do forms contain unstyled divs?

Still, both above and below my form content, div's without styles remain. Sending messages to javascript objects

Hi list, from the examples I've seen so far, the basic mechanism to update (a part of) a page is to split the page rendering in many #renderXYZOn: and then using an updater to refresh a specific part of the page by calling the appropriate #renderXYZOn:. Now, even though possible, in some cases it is a waste of user time and bandwidth to re-render a whole component, when that can be done by just sending a javascript message. To be concrete, suppose I have a page with a google map component and a checkbox to decide whether the map should show the google bar or not. Using the first approach, the page would look like: html checkbox value: self map isGoogleBarEnabled; onChange: (html updater id: self map containerId; callback: [:renderer | self map toggleGoogleBar. renderer render: self map]). however, this means that toggling a checkbox would reload the whole map, which is definitely perceived by the user and expensive in terms of network bandwidth. Now, in terms of javascript this can be achieved by just sending the message enable/disableGoogleBar() to the map object, which can be coded as: html checkbox id: 'choice_chk'; value: self map isGoogleBarEnabled; onChange: ('if (document.getElementById(''choice_chk'').checked) {' , self map id , '.enableGoogleBar();} else {' , self map id , '.disableGoogleBar();}'). However, this approach means that: 1. The map model living in the Smalltalk image (i.e. "self map") is not synchronized with the map in the page, since it didn't receive the toggle notification. 2. The script is "static" in terms that it can't take decisions in terms of the current state of the St image. It can just code the app state in the script at the time the page was rendered, something that may not be consistent over time. 3. Even though a definitely minor issue, I have to write javascript. To solve the first problem the first thing that comes to my mind is replicating the effort, by also attaching a callback that updates the model, which I'm not very fond of. The second one seems a bit more weird, since I would need to coordinate St objects with javascript objects. So I was wondering if there already is a standard mechanism to handle this kind of situations. I started thinking about a seamless way of interacting with javascript objects from Smalltalk by some sort of proxies, but I don't want to put up a new machinery if there this has already been solved. Menu component - communicating with root component

Hi, Sorry if these questions seem very simple -- but I wanted to check that my overall architecture was ok. I have an application that has a RootComponent and several sub components that can be selected by actions in the MenuComponent. RootComponent MenuComponent Body1Component Body2Component .. etc ... The menu component in the anchor callbacks sends #triggerEvent: to notify the Root of the menu selection. The Root then renders the selected Body component. Is this a reasonable Seaside-way of structuring the application. I know that Pier has the sidebar menus ... but Pier is difficult for me to follow due to the highly abstracted nature of the application. Thanks -- Edward Stow

Hi, in general there are three ways: 1. serve files using an external server/location (Apache) 2. create a WAFileLibrary 3. let the Squeak webserver serve files from hard disk 1. is not good for portability, 2. bloats the image - so 3. may be your option to choose. Hi. Which version of seaside testing should I load in VW 7.6? I loaded from the public repository SeasideTestingBundle R1.5.20.0,mbany. I got "unloadable definitions" on load : SeasidePortStrategyTesting. How to style SUTabPanel?

Hello, I'm trying to figure out how SUTabPanel works. First I created the following class: WATask subclass: #TabPanelTest instanceVariableNames: '' classVariableNames: '' poolDictionaries: '' category: 'TabPanelTest' TabPanelTest class>>#canBeRoot ^ true. TabPanelTest>>#go self call: SUTabPanel example. Second, I created an application using Seaside's Dispatcher Editor ("config"). Third, I added the SULibrary to my application. At this point, the test works, in the sense that I have the three counter anchors, and clicking on them bring up different counter instances. However, the "tabs" are rendered as plain list items (<li>). Inspecting the HTML source shows that SUTabPanel has the following structure: - div class="tabpanel" - ul class="head" - li class="active" - li - div class="body" Which finally takes me to my question: does Seaside include a WAFileLibrary with CSS that will make SUTabPanels appear like real tabs? I can see that WAStandardStyles has #kalseyTabsCss, but those styles do not match the structure above. I'm I suppoused to come up with my own CSS? If so, does anyone has some code they care to share? Alternatively, is there a way to change SUTabPanel in order to make it use styles appropriate for kalseyTabsCss? Thanks in advance! Saludos, Víctor Rodríguez.

I am trying to incorporate images into my website. However I would rather not use the methods listed in the "Resources" section of the Seaside Tutorial at http://www.swa.hpi.uni-potsdam.de/seaside/tutorial. The CSS method reloads the image everytime, and the WAFileLibrary method inflates the Seaside image terribly. Using Apache as a proxy is not desirable because I am using Seaside mainly for its portability ie. I can stick the entire Seaside image on a flash drive and move the web-server from PC to PC with minimal hassle compared to other frameworks. Is there some way to have the Seaside read the images off some directory on the file system? Deech
