Nested Editor Components

I've boiled my question down to this... What's the best way to have an editor component retain the values of it's input fields, if those values have been changed, and nested components are calling editors of their own? An example scenario: I have a customer editor component that has a name input, and a nested phone number report component. Each report row has a phone number, type, and "Add" link. When it is clicked the report component calls and is replaced by a phone number editor component. This is happening within the customer editor. The problem is that when the phone number editor component is called, the value of the name input field in the customer editor reverts to it's original value if it had been changed. If it had a value of "Lenny" when the form renders, and the user changes the name to "Carl". It changes back to "Lenny" when the user goes to add a phone number. I get that when the anchor is clicked the form refreshes. So is ajax the answer? Or can I take a different approach with components? I attached a .mcz of my test case. CustomerReport is the root component. Thanks Joel

We've been using visualworks catalogs for a while now to translate the app and it worked well. Having problems with states

Hi, yesterday I discovered some trouble using states. I have a component that implements states ^ Array with: self And this components has a few instance variables that need to be backtracked. The first action that I do sets the model of this component. On the next action the model is set to something different. If I use the back button the reach the first point and click a link that displays the component again the model from the second step is set in the component. Do I need to do more than implementing states? How can I myself check if it is working correctly? thanks, Norbert

Using Comet to push PNG files?

I'm trying to push PNG files as part of a "presentation app". I tried looking at CTCounter and using #update: as an example to follow. The method CTCounter>>update: sends the message SUElement>>update:. The instance of WAImageTag in my app that I'm trying to update (with a new PNG file) is given an id (by senting the message #id:). Using this id I tried to update the image: self pusher javascript: [ :script | script element id: 'WWW'; update: (MMAFileLibrary / self getCurrentPageFile) asString]. "An instance of WAUrl." This failed. Tried using SUElement>>replace: self pusher javascript: [ :script | script element id: 'WWW'; replace: (html image url: MMAFileLibrary / self getCurrentPageFile)]. "An instance of WAImageTag ." This resulted in the string 'a WAImageTag' being pushed to other browsers. Any ideas? ---John

www.seaside.st problem

I'm using Firefox 3.0.10 under linux. If I view the page http://www.seaside.st/documentation/persistence and click on any of the internal links (GLORP for example), the result is my browser shows the page positioned at that internal link so I can see that entry and those that follow (GLORP, ROE, Magma...in my example). BUT, I can't see anything above this on the page. If I scroll to the top I can see the Seaside logo and the search box but I can't see any entries that precede the GLORP entry...again, using GLORP as an example. It happens for all of the internal links. It's as if the contents of the page above the internal link have been hidden. And, my back button doesn't show any history related that page...anyone else seeing this strange behavior? BTW, this happens on many pages on this site but this is the only site I've ever had it happen on. Firebug shows the entire DOM (including the invisible nodes above the one I can see). There's nothing I can see in the styles that would cause this portion of the page to be hidden. Definitely seems like a Firefox bug but it is only tickled by seaside.st in my experience. Anyone have a clue? David

Hello, we are releasing the first beta version of Meteoroid, a Comet-based framework that runs on top of Seaside. The purpose of the framework is to create "live" web application in a few steps, both at the low level and also using the existing value model concept. To use Meteoroid, it is recommended to know how to use MVC[1] and Announcements[2]. Feedback, improvements and bug-reports are most welcome. Quick explanation: A Meteoroid page (which is both a View and a Controller) has between its component a div with a special ID. This div is bound to a model, which trigger changes by using an observer-like mechanism. Each time the model changes, an announcement is triggered and data being pushed from the server to the div. We are currently releasing the first version of the low-level API and we are working on the connection between the ValueModel hierarchy and the standard HTML widgets (text areas, radio buttons, lists, etc.).
