Redirect Loop

Hi All, one of our clients is complaining that intermittently they are receiving a "Redirect Loop" error in their browses on one of our apps. I've done some investigative work (i.e. put "self halt" in WADispatcher>>#handleRequest:) and I can see that sometimes Seaside is redirecting as many as 18-21 times for a simple GET url (/seaside/myapp)? This can't be right, can it? There are no callbacks/calls/answers at this point, just a simple page rendering. Any pointers on where I should look? Many thanks, John. Import and export to a spreadsheet

I'd like to add a page to seaside.st and would be interested in comments and improvements Stephan Introduction A lot of applications have a need to import and export some data. Spreadsheets are often used for this purpose. Spreadsheet file formats Spreadsheets use different formats. Excel in its different versions has three native file formats (BIFF, XMLSS, XLSX). OpenOffice has ODF. In addition, both handle formats more suitable for simple data exchange: CSV, TSV, DBF. The easiest format to support from Seaside is CSV/TSV, but that does not allow formulas or formatting to be transferred. A quick and dirty method to get formatted data into Excel is to send html (table) data and use a application/xls mime type. Export to a spreadsheet Making a Seaside application export some data to a spreadsheet in tab separated format consists of the following steps: - create a stream to contain the data; - walk the data collection and for each object; - write the fields to the stream; - separated by tabs and ending each object with a cr; - create a response and send it to the client. Mimetype There are different mimetypes that can be used: - application/xls - application/vnd.ms-excel - application/excel - application/x-excel - text/tab-separated-values Some versions of IE do interesting things with mime types (ignore them). Most success was reported with the first type. Issues - A well known bug with Excel and opening UTF-8 CSV files via file association: it assumes that they are in the current code page. - Using tab as a separator instead of a comma makes sure floats arrive in the expected column in the spreadsheet. Some countries have a comma as a decimal separator. - Adding "'s around each field that is written can help preserve leading zeros and allows tabs, cr and lf to be used in a field. - The number of lines in a spreadsheet is limited. Importing spreadsheet data. Small amounts of unformated data can be easily copy-and-pasted from a spreadsheet to a textArea and then parsed. Larger amounts are better handled as a file upload. Making a Seaside application import some data from a spreadsheet in tab separated format consists of the following steps: - extract the string from a textArea; - split the string into lines; - split each line into fields; - for each wellformed line, create an object; - map each field to the object.

How to start an image with PORT parameter

Hi: As far as I saw on some doc it's possible to start a seaside image in the way: "squeakvm seaside.image PORT nnnn". Then, as WAKom check this parameter on its #startUp method, is posible to have it running on the passed port. But I can't make it work on the versions I tried (Seaside 2.8.1/2/4) with Squeak 3.10.2. The behaviour is that if I use -headless the image start, but not on the passed port. And if I start the image without -headless I get the Error: No content to install on CodeLoader (Seems that it hope that PORT be a script with Smalltalk code to load more than a parameter). Any tip or suggestion will be appreciated. Cheers.

calls within Children components

I'm having a problem with call: not working for an anchor within a child component. The same call: does work for the parent component, so it is leaving me puzzled; perhaps I'm not doing something right with children? Here's the callback in question, inside renderContentOn: of the child component: html anchor callback: [self editArgument: myArgument]; with: myArgument title. and, the editArgument method: editArgument: anArgument self editor doc: anIBISDoc. self call: self editor editor ^myEditor ifNil: [myEditor := IBISDocumentEditor new] myEditor is added to the children OrderedCollection upon initialization. IBISDocumentEditor is a WAComponent. When the anchor above is clicked, I've confirmed that editor doc: is invoked, but it never makes it to self call: . More precisely, IBISDocumentEditor's renderContentOn: is never called. The same pattern of code works just fine when used in the parent component, so I'm puzzled. Ideas? Kevin

Apple told me today that WikiServer for the iPhone version 1.4.3 is now in the store. This version is not yet based on Pier 1.2 I am working on that, anyone who wants to beta-test WikiServer 1.5 should email me. However we have add a macintosh, windows, and linux client so you can import/export wiki content to/from desktop machines and iphone devices. How to know how many users are connected to my site?

Hi folks! I don't know if this is more Pier related or Seaside related...I just want to render something in my Pier website that says "there are XXX people viewing the site" (in spanish hahaha). Now, the question is, is there a component for that? Value Links ? Suppose there isn't and I will do it, how can I know from Seaside/Pier how many people is "connected" to my website? Squeak Examples in a Google Code Project

Hi list, I thought it could be a great idea to contribute some implementations to the community and therefore started a Google Code Project: http://code.google.com/p/seaside-examples/ >From time to time I write some small tutorials about implementing certain features in my blog and will provide the file outs of the classes as a download. In first phase, in addition to my documentation in the blog I will use the GCode Project as a download center. Of course everyone that wants to take part in the project is very welcome to contact me. Later on I could think of using the Wiki pages in connection with the download page as a portal for newcomers as well as experienced programmers to find certain implementations. My goal is to provide common implementations with a suitable documentation. My first entry is the tutorial about writing a simple navigation. Which you can find in my blog here: http://peter-osburg.ehstpro.de/2009/07/18/creating-a-simple-navigation-in-s… I hope to find the time to post some more content in the future.
