Hi, When one overrides the WAAuthConfiguration class to provide you with customizable login verification, does the attributes for login and password get set to those entered on the login screen? I have a problem where I would like to access the login and password selectors from the session class but, self application preferenceAt: #password and self application preferenceAt: #login return nil. Any ideas on how to get the preferences set to those entered on the login dialog or how to get those entered values in another way. Thank you, Mart-Mari

Is the callback:[] of #selectFromList:selected:callback:labels: supposed to be triggered during the #onChange event of a select element? Seaside Tutorial and SeasideTesting talk at SmalltalkSolutions '05

Hi folks, I'd like to plug the Seaside Tutorial at Smalltalk Solutions '05 in Orlando. Avi and Julian (maybe unbeknownst to him) passed this on to me this year. They did an excellent job last year (or was it '03?)...anyway I've been using Seaside every since. I've borrowed their material which fits perfectly in the time allotted to the tutorial. But, being an academic, I also felt that it never hurts to have extra material so I added a cursory introduction to Squeak+GOODS, the Seaside configuration system and would be happy to answer questions on SeasideTesting. None of the material covered is particularly unique to this presentation but if you're just getting started with Seaside and you want hands on help, sign up for the tutorial! Note: I'll also be presenting an overview of SeasideTesting. Si çà peut donner le goût à certains d'essayer Seaside...tant mieux. C'est pas documenté...sic....pas de temps et surtout parce que le tout a débuté comme un simple exercice, puis s'est développé tout naturellement... Les données ne sont pas encore persistentes...vous les perdez lorsque vous changez de session, où que la session est écoulée. J'ai testé avec FireFox sous Windows et Safari sous MacOS X j'espère que çà sort relativement bien... Vous avez besoin d'une image Seaside dans laquelle vous chargé le fichier Monticello. J'ai travaillé avec l'image toute faite (Seaside 2.5) sur le site Seaside.st Les commentaires, critiques etc...sont les biens venus. Raymond =========== For english people: There is a Seaside demo application at http://www.squeaksource.com/XPSeaside/ This is an application written in French...but in case somebody is interested... This is a not a finish product, mainly an exercise to learn Seaside..so data are not persistents...and lots of functionnality aren't there. For now this is a 32 hours of work to learn Seaside and...CSS. This application want to reproduce the XPSwiki of Agile Group - Universita'' di Cagliari.

Hi, how do we modify the predefined length of fields generated by Seaside. Example: I want a label... NAME: and an input box say 32 char wide...How? For span For inputText For textArea etc... Raymond

Utility Method

I added to my personal image, the following utility method to WAHTMLRender: labeledTextInputOn: aSymbol of: anObject self label: [aSymbol asCapitalizedPhrase asString] value input: []; textInputOn: aSymbol of: anObject This generates a quick, one-off <label>ed field. I tried using WAHtmlRenderer>>#label:input: but this puts the <input> tag inside the <label> tag's body. HTML gurus, is that ok? Here's a sample what the above method generates (formatted source): <label for="id1"> First Name </label> <input type="text" value="Fred" name="2" id="id1" />

I was showing a friend of mine HTML and Seaside a few days ago. She had never seen HTML or any kind of programming before. I showed her first how to do raw HTML with a simple text editor. I made a simple page with a heading and an unordered list. This is a smart woman and she caught onto the syntax right away but thought it was a bit clumsy, especially having to put </whatever> at the end of a tag. Then I switched over to Squeak and wrote the same page in Seaside. As soon as I typed html heading: 'Hello, Tanya' she exclaimed "Oh! Here you just *say* it!" My thoughts on smalltalk/Seaside exactly! At least once during the remainder of the day, she was heard to say "I'm liking this Smalltalk thing." Bill Holloway

Well hello everyone, I've finally returned from Australia and New Zealand... 10 months: what a trip! Diving, rafting, dolphins, hiking, 4-wheel-driving, flying, volcanoes, fjords, rainforests... anyway, it's been fun. Now comes the process of getting back up to speed with seaside and more importantly the state of Squeak. A 3.8 release?! Amazing! :) I'm working my way slowly backwards through the seaside list as I have time (currently have it down to 1399 unread :) ) and I have to say I'm delighted to see such a good community developing here: most of the threads are being answered by other users which is very, very cool. Thanks, That worked well. It's a shame you can't use the call / answer model for this, as generally it seems to be a nice way of reusing components. Hi James, It looks like the main problem here is that you're doing the #call: to the login component from the render phase. You should only ever call components, or do mutation in general, from a callback - rendering should be side-effect free. I would probably do this with a decoration instead: WASecurityDecoration>>renderContentOn: html (self session user checkPermissionTo: self component) ifTrue: [self renderOwnerOn: html] ifFalse: [self renderLoginFormOn: html] And then something like WAComponent>>beSecure self addDecoration: WASecurityDecoration new Now you can send #beSecure to any component you like.
