Pausing animation?

I can't find a way to insert a pause in an animation. My students want to slow down their animations. I taught Microworlds last year, and in that language, you inserted a pause of x seconds in the script to slow down the motion. Is there a way to do this in Squeak? os-x Dashboard squeakland support

Demand for os-x 10.4 (Tiger) Dashboard widgets has been high, so I've been fiddling. Thus find on my idisk, a Squeak dashboard widget. http://homepage.mac.com/johnmci/FileSharing.html Squeak.wdgt.zip You must have installed the SqueakLand image/vm & browser plugin via http://squeakland.org/plugin/installers/mac-x-std.html I will of course assume any macintosh os-x users on this list have done this step. Then grab the widget, it is a For now it's more proof concept and opens up at 500x500 using the Default.png Right click on bottom right to resize within the 500x500 area. For some reason resizing bigger is noticed by Squeak but the redrawing at say 600x600 is wrong, the port does not get bigger than 500x500. You cannot drag objects in squeakland, this is a limitation I'm attempting to resolve. I suspect you can alter/create project in the normal squeakland environment, then alter the widget's html to start the widget with a project of your choice. Things to do: a) The Default.png and Icon.png are quick choices, someone who sends me mail and examples could lobby for changes. b) Interesting enough each invocation of the widget starts another Squeak VM so you can have multiple independent VM running, they all share the same read-only space, and can write to the My Projects folder, not sure what the implications of doing this are, but it seems ok. I will note the plugin starts with src="http://www.squeakland.org/projects/EToy-Template.001.pr" This can be change to start with any project you choose, I hope to add the ability to set a preference and set the project of your choice. -- ======================================================================== === John M. scripted drawing as an object?

Hi Squeakers, In Etoys, can I make some drawing that was the result of a script become an object? For example, consider the simple circle-drawing script (fwd by, turn by, pen down). Can I somehow treat that resulting circle as an object and thereby make copies of it, etc? I realize that I could use either the 'Grab Patch' or 'Lasso' in the Supplies to manually "select" the circle, however that approach of course gives me more pixels than I really want. Thanks, Randy

Training on E-Toys and E-toys/I2C support (for robotics...)

Hi all, It seems that there is more and more teachers interested by squeak and E-toys, and we organized a training on Squeak and E-Toys for teachers few weeks ago. So I'm very interested if you have some materials to use, I'm especially interested on posters (with sources for translation !), relevant .pr showing interesting aspects on E-toys, and sharing problems or ways to address such trainings. I have also two questions : 1. We are working now on a way to use E-Toys to control sensors and motors and hence enlarge the possibility offered by E-toys : I think about robotics, domotics, computer-assisted experimentation... We have already tested robotics with children during holiday's camp using LOGO and we are planning to test the new SqueakBot platform providing the necessary I2C support for this kind of stuff this summer (available on SqueakSource). Anyone interested on a collaboration ? I remember that there was a weather station done on Squeak, so do you know if this is available somewhere ? 2. Is there a way to create directories in SqueakLand project server, for instance I would like to create a french-speaking directory to allow french-speaking teachers and children sharing their projects. (Unfortunately learning foreign languages is a problem in this country, and this could be an hindrance for children... and teachers !) Oh, yes, I played a little with E-toys, and do a little game inspired by Dance Dance Revolution, look at Rabbit.pr attached here. I have a problem with playing a mp3 sound during the game, it hangs sometimes and changing the priority of the player doesn't work... Ideas ? Last thing, this project is placed under DDR Licence (Dance Dance Rabbit Licence), not sure that this is compatible with Squeak-L because of the exportation law - DDR Licence demands that you don't export this project to countries where foxes are living ;-) Euh, I am in doubt, is there ever any foxes in earth ? I don't know of a full solution for editing mathematical text in Squeak. It used to be possible to embed morphs into text. Does anyone know if this is still possible? If so, how do you do it? Scamper uses this facility internally, but I don't know how to do it as a normal user. If it's still possible, then you could use Latex to generate PS or PDF, then convert those into GIF. Squeak can load GIF's! Load a GIF from a File List, and you'll have a morph which can then be embedded into text. (Assuming that the answer to the previous question was positive.) Another approach you can try, if you have a lot of time on your hands to experiment with this, is to try the equation editors made by college students one semester at Georgia Tech. You'll have to file them in and see whether any of them work in the Squeakland image, but here they are if you are that interested: http://coweb.cc.gatech.edu/cs2340/17 (scroll down to "summer 2000") Some of them look nice, but I haven't tried them myself. -Lex
