animation, holder

Hi Squeakers! I just went to Squeakland, downloaded updates, and was experimenting with creating a simple animation - per the "Powerful Ideas..." book and Squeakfest tutorial. It seems there is no longer a "Holder's playerAtCursor" tile in a Holder's viewer. Is that true? What do I do? I was pleased to see that dropping frames into the Holder is no longer plagued with the annoying problem of having to put the cursor in "just the right position". In fact, it seems that the behavior of a Holder is more dynamic than what I remember from Squeakfest, in that it resizes according to how many frames you drop in and allows for easy rearranging of frames - or maybe those features were already there and I didn't realize it. Although I didn't really push it, I'm wondering, if I drop in so many frames that the Holder exceeds the size of my world/screen, will the Holder automatically reveal scrollbars? (It would be nice :) Thanks, Randy

restoring squeak

I'm teaching Squeak in a small elementary school computer lab to some 5th, 6th and 8th graders, and we've been having lots of fun, even if we have to muddle through some occasional tech support issues. Lately, two or three of our computers display a previous student's saved project when Squeak starts up. It's caused by the same one or two students who have somehow quit incorrectly, but I haven't been able to pinpoint it any further than that because I'm usually trying to answer seventeen pressing student questions at once while teaching. (this is a good thing, btw) two questions - 1) How can I get Squeak back to normal? (i.e., displaying a new, untitled project to start out) Can I do this and still keep the student projects that are saved on the local disc? 2) Any idea why this happened? thanks for any help y'all can send my way - David Wells

Dear Herb, It sounds to me you should direct your query to the "Squeak-dev" or Squeak.org mailing list. The Squeakland community generally uses the download from the "Squeakland.org" website and doesn't save images or morphs to file, but saves "projects" as the unit -- and these save outside of the image. Undefined Object : #world when saving morphs

Hi, I am running Squeak 3.6.2 on XP. ( Actually, this also happens on a Mac. ) I can do a "save morph to file" just fine when the morph doesn't have a script in it but when I do have a script in it, I get an error about #world being an undefined object. I get the same kind of thing when trying to share objects using Squeak's collaboration tools ( Badge and Listener ). I really need to share some objects that I create on one machine with someone on another machine! How can I do this? The orange Navigator flap has a next and previous button to switch. (There are other ways, but that is one). Hi Herb, I've done this. Probably not the best way, but you can load a bunch of projects and then drag objects from a project into a tray (you can just use the supplies tray), switch projects, and drag it back out of the tray. But, I'm interested in knowing a "better" way. I can see how to share projects but how do I just share one object? Here's what I want to do. I want to have a car race where the students program their cars on their own PCs. They are given a "track" inside a project on which to test their cars scripts on. Then they share that car with me on my "main" PC where I will race two cars at a time on side by side identical tracks that I have in a project. These races will be projected on a screen for all to see. I just want to be able to copy their cars along with the scripts that they wrote for them into my "competition" project on my PC. Also, after I sent in the e-mail to the mailing list, I tried saving morphs from an older version of Squeak ( actually the same VM but an older image. ). I got this from Randy Caton's NASA Connect CD. There everything works fine! I can save morphs that have scripts in them.
