Newbie installation question - security system fails

Hi, I am using an HP laptop running Windows XP. Because of the way the admins want things, I have to install Squeak under and admin account and then run it from a non-admin account. Everything works fine from the admin account. From the admin account, I am prompted for the location of the image file. I found the one that the admin installed. While "Initializing security system...", I get: "An error has occurred. You should probably just hit abandon. Sorry" When I choose Debug I see a call stack that includes code that refers to SecurityKeys a lot. I also tried to Abandon and then I seem to be able to run normally anyway! Does this have to do with some permissions on the files ? How do I fix this problem? Also, I can only see half of the bottom row of Supplies even in the admin account. symmetry, tiling

I'm going to try to resend this question to the list since I haven't seen it appear yet... Can someone tell me if it's possible to perform symmetry operations (rotations, translations) on simple geometric shapes in Squeak/E-toys? From this, I'd then like to create a project to have kids learn about planar tilings (think of your favorite quilt pattern). Thanks for any tips, Randy

Hi, Hilaire, See The 'collisions' project on squeakland-BSS. Using tellAllContents or tell all Siblings should be faster then each sript beeing ticking. More this project is showing how to get with wich an object is colliding and how to select collisiions with some clone. In the mean time I am using the color test. While objects are cloned to simulate a dynamic system (around hundreds of objects with their own scripts), I found the whole system becomes very sloow. Hi Squeakfolk, I'm at work on a historical research project, tracing the evolution of Alan Kay's Dynabook vision over three+ decades, with special attention to the educational aspects. I'm getting ready to start making this research available online, so for starters, I've posted a page of the Web-based material I've dug up, at: http://thinkubator.ccsp.sfu.ca/Dynabook This is (so far) about 100-odd web links to historical documents, starting with material dating back to the early 70s. overlaps over clone does not work

Hello, I cannot get an expected result with the "overlaps" tile to make overlaps test. I can get it work with one instance of a player 'krill', let's say: 'fish overlaps krill' however this test does not work with a clone of krill. I was expecting that the overlaps method was working at a class level and not at an instance level. Or maybe there is something I have not understand. Concening the toucheA I did not succeed to use it in test condition. Problems with Installation

Hello all, I'm in the enjoyable situation to teach squeak to some teachers from local high schools and therefore would like to install the newest version of the squeaklandImage in our lab. The problem we encountered immediately was with accessing the standard "C:\MySqueak"-directory when logged in as a normal user. It took some time and help from Bert to determine what to do. First of all, can you tell me what the "SecurityKeys" are for? We had to switch them off in the image. Then I don't know what the "EtoyLogin" in the preferences stands for. It is enabled and I haven't changed it. But I would like to know about it. That is the core problem, I think, that there is little documentation. In our installation we got problems until I was pointed to the swiki and the site with the win32 ini file settings. Our problem was solved with the adding of two lines in the squeak.ini containing the path for UserDirectory and SecureDirectory. But it costs us some time to find out. It would have been much easier if in the squeak.ini file the two lines with the current settings for the UserDirectory and SecureDirectory were just added. It is easy for any slightly technical person to change a path in the .ini-file. Now I would like to set up a project server. Where can I find documentation how to do this? Thank you, Rita P.S.
