Hi Alan,
Hi Folks --
You know, in Tweak, we should probably just extrude real objects for pen
I have been travelling a lot for the last few weeks and am not up to date with the recent developments on this forum, so please pardon my ignorance: what is Tweak?
Thanks, -- Shashank
Tweak is the next version of etoys, and will have considerably more range of users and use. We have been working on this for the last several years.
Cheers,
Alan

I'd really like to learn more about this sometime. Perhaps it will be a topic at Squeakfest and I can wait til then, but obviously not everyone on this list will be attending. My main curiosity is about how the user interface will change (or not) for Tweak-etoys vs. Squeak-etoys. As far as teaching children, I don't really care what graphics engine drives etoys - I do care about the UI. But obviously the engine can help define/improve the UI.

Hi, Randy - We do plan for an "introduction to Tweak" at SqueakFest. You will learn lots more there. cheers, Kim

Suggestions for better UI would be most welcome.

Hi Alan, I'm not sure whether to read into that that the UI will remain unchanged in Tweak-etoys or not. Anyway, I appreciate the "invitation" for feedback :)
One UI issue that seems to crop up for me fairly often is a tile-script becoming unwieldy - in length. Now this may be because I'm stretching the limits of how etoys should be used. But it seems a nice feature would be to have an optional scrollbar on a tile-script (just as is present on the textual code version of the script). Similarly, the option of having a scrollbar on the 'scripts' and 'variables' categories would be nice.
I'd also like to use etoys to teach some fun graphics apps that use simple math. However, writing something like: a*x + b*y becomes fairly cumbersome in etoys. For starters, there is no notion of operator hierarchy, nor any parens for grouping - unless I'm mistaken.
Just some thoughts, Randy
