Here are the notes from our meeting today: Rita gave a short review of her visit and talk in Portugal, which led us to the topic of the different versions of Squeak Etoys which are used. We agreed that we at least need to put some information on the website about which projects work well with the showcase and Etoys 4. Randy gave us an overview about Rico's progress on his GSoC project, which is really good. Steve asked to switch the last two topics on his agenda and to do Learner and Teacher feedback before Etoys Paint tool. For the paint tool we will ask the community for feedback before changes or additions will be made. Then we came up with the first presentation proposals for Squeakfest and other related issues. Folks, please do *not* misuse the bug tracker for discussion. It is only for tracking progress on an issue - the actual discussion and decision needs to happen here on list. And since this issue needs input from the education folks, it needs to be on squeakland, not just the developers list. Squeak image from Spain and Etoys

Rodolfo Converso, a School Teacher from Buenos Aires, Argentina, created many interesting educational projects. Rodolfo authorized me to share any or all them with Squeakers around the world. You already may see one of his projects in the Showcase: tablas _de _multiplicar (2010-May-12 19:35 EDT) by Rodolfo Converso <carlos> Multiplicación I have a problem and wonder if any of you could give me the solution. There are a few of Rodolfo´s projects, the most recent and probably best among them, that I cannot open because instead of Etoys he used the program adopted by his school. Rodolfo works for Aulas en Red de Buenos Aires (Online Classrooms of Buenos Aires). This school system uses, instead of Etoys, an image downloaded from http://squeak.educarex.es/Squeakpolis Apparently the decision was based on the abundant information in Spanish in this site from Spain. Projects using spanish Squeak image

Wonder if anyone could tell me if there is an easy way to export projects that work with the Squeak image from Spain to Etoys 4 so we may share them with all squeakers. Thanks. This is the description of the situation: Rodolfo Converso, a School Teacher in Argentina, gave us authorization to publish any or all of his many interesting projects. You may already see a first example, Multiplication Tables, in the showcase. We told Rodolfo we cannot open some of his projects. This is what he answered: All my projects work properly with the Squeak image developed in Spain. I work for Aulas en Red de Buenos Aires (Online Classrooms of Buenos Aires). Squeakfest Call for Presentations

The official Squeakfest website is now live and ready for you to propose a presentation, workshop, or panel. http://squeakfest.org The dates for Squeakfest USA in Wilmington NC are July 26, 27, 28. The theme for this year's conference will be "Etoys in the STEM classroom." As we are in the place where the NSF project /Using Squeak to Infuse Technology /(USeIT) is reaching it's 3rd year, we will see and learn a lot about their experiences. If you've got experience teaching with Etoys, we'd love to hear about it, as would the attendees of the conference. We're also very interested in non-classroom Etoys use, particularly as it relates to OLPC pilots or homeschooling. We'll be adding more information to the website as it becomes available, but for now, the important thing is to get your presentation information to us so we can begin to design the program for our three days together. Please complete and submit the online form no later than June 11th, 2010. Please share this information with anyone you think would be interested in either Squeakfest conference.
