Hi Phil,
Your question made me try it out using the new Squeakland05 image, but no, it still does not work as one would expect. As far as symmetries go, I posted the sym-nature Etoys project that we did at http://sda.iu.edu/K-12/ , in case you hadn't seen that yet. I really should go back and do it better, now that my Etoys skills have improved.
I don't see your name on this year's Squeakfest attendees, but if you're planning to be there I'll see you in Chicago!

Randy, Wondering if you ever got to solve this problem or do any more work related to symmetry using Squeak...

Hi Randy --
I think this one is a bug (or in this case more accurately: an unimplemented feature). It should perform the way you want (and I think we should put in this feature). But there is a way to script in etoys what you are trying to do.
Cheers,
Alan

I'm attempting to perform a 2-D reflection symmetry on an object by doing a left-right flip 180 degs - as depicted in the attached jpg (assuming it comes across OK). Basically what I've done is sketched 1/2 of a (bilaterally symmetric) leaf, moved its rotation center to the axis of reflection, and in a script:
Sketch's rotationStyle - flip left right Sketch turn by 180
However, when I execute the script, the object gets flipped "in place", about the center of the object (as if I'd never moved the rotation center), rather than about the rotation center as I desired. In fact, moving the rotation center anywhere has no effect on the flip action.
Suggestions?
