Etoys release 4.1.1

Hi all, we made a minor update to the Etoys 4.1 release that has a few bug fixes. Get it from http://squeakland.org/download/ Changes: * updated translations: de, ta, es, kn * fix soundReverb (SQ-852, SQ-853) * correct problem stopping sounds (SQ-845) * use composition input for bn, gu, hi, kn, ml, mr, ta, te, sa (SQ-850) * fix error when switching to Vietnamese * fix double click to launch project on Windows * added README for Etoys-To-Go * on Linux, prefer PulseAudio driver over OSS - Bert (for the developers team) -

May I thank you on behalf of my fellow students and my own, for this contribution. Yesterday I also had another moment of big happiness. During a perfect whole day training session conducted by RAP Ceibal (Plan Ceibal Support Network run by volunteers), they showed us examples of some projects from the showcase [Squeakland's Showcase]. And, among those [examples] was "Arte Indigena" [ link http://squeakland.org/showcase/project.jsp?id=9980 added by the translator] I remembered when you helped Lidia and me to publish this project in the showcase. I was happy to see the effect is now multiplied with more educators, encouraging them to think "yes, it is possible". Etoys 4.1 Release Candidate 1

Hi all, we are getting really close to this year's Etoys release. I'm copying more mailing lists than usual in hope to get some more testers :) Here is the first release candidate (scroll down to "release candidates"): http://squeakland.org/download/ There is a Mac installer already, and a To-Go version that works without installing on Mac, Linux, and Windows. A real Windows installer will follow, as well as a release for OLPC/Sugar. Draft release notes are at http://wiki.squeakland.org/display/sq/Etoys+4.1+Release+Notes If you find problems, please report them in our tracker, or by replying to this mail. http://tracker.squeakland.org/ We are in code freeze now, only severe bugs will be touched. Translations can still be updated before Sep 25 - help welcome: http://translate.sugarlabs.org/projects/etoys_new/ The final release is scheduled for Sep 29. For the list of changes, see below. The good news: There are now 87 videos on YouTube with the Canal Ceibal TV classes. Please note video No. 65 shows a class where teacher and students only speak English!! Hi folks, I'm two weeks out from another Waveplace trip to Haiti, this time to visit ten schools and meet with ten organizations, along with handing out 50+ laptops and prepping many more. We received the suggestion many times of studying and modifying Etoys projects made by others as a means for us to learn to use Etoys. Today we did just that. Lino Bessonart and María Mendez presenting Etoys to a sold out crowd today

Lino Bessonart has been one of the most enthusiast Squeakers in Uruguay. He is the fellow who spoke to us in Porto Alegre while demonstrating, from Uruguay, the distance training technique he uses to reach those who live far away from important population centers. He is the one many of us have to thank for his spanish Etoys training videos. He is the one, together with María Méndez who will be conducting the Etoys sessions today during the event that will take place in Montevideo today. I noticed he became Uruguay´s Squeaker No. 76, leaving our country only 9 squeakers away from becoming No. 1 in the world! Lino wrote a very nice paragraph when signing up as a Squeaker. Unfortunately the automatic English translation didn´t come up well. Audio recorder broken on XO-1.5

Hi, I'm currently experimenting with Etoys' audio recorder on the XO. It seems to be broken on the XO-1.5. While it works (more or less) ok on several XO-1s, all of them have a fresh install of System 10.1.2/Sugar 0.84, it completely fails on the XO-1.5, running the same System/Sugar version. Following is a description of what happens: I create a new project, open the supplies box, fetch a Sound Recorder, and place it somewhere on stage. I press the record button, the microphone control light lights up and I'm able to record about a second or two. Then Etoys gets kind of stuck. It is hard to move the mouse cursor, stop the recording, remove the recorder... It takes some time, then Etoys starts to be responding again and I'm able to delete the recorder. Even if the recorder is deleted the microphone control light still keeps burning until Etoys is finally stopped. I wrote more or less ok as on both XO's the quality of the audio is less than satisfactory. Also the level of the recording is very low. Maybe a control to adjust the input level might be a means to improve this.
